with concrete there are a number of products on the market that deeply penetrate up to approx 200mm. forms a moisture barrier within the concrete mass. Also can act as a surface repellent. You would still overlay with an applied paint coating. Clear or coloured. Have some tech data sheets if I can find them I will post details.
Yep epoxies can be $$$$$
Remember your floors while I am sure alot of play to happen in there will not see the same heavy constant wear experienced in professional workshops

I believe it's epoxy, but thanks, I'm going there tonight -I'll ask him.

All the best finishes I've seen or researched were the 2-part epoxy paint systems. I eneded just using White Knight Paving paint which is doing the job okay for the time being
John Walker (on the board) had an epoxy treatment done to his floor that looks absolutely superb (and he keeps a scissor lift on it). Might be worth quizzing him on what product it is?

Tom, I hear about problems with paint when hot/warm tyres soften the paint and proceed to peel it off the floor again.
True epoxy coatings are supposedly immune to being lifted off the floor. I guess, however, a lot comes down to who is applying whatever product...
I have the added difficulty of wanting to use the garage as a workshop, ie welding and grinding. Not sure how well even epoxy would stand up to that sort of treatment?
Polished concrete looks good, except that I'd like a very light floor, light grey or almost white would be good. I want the space to be as bright as possible, not dark and dingy. Which brings me to porcelain tiles. I can hear you guys thinking bathrooms at the mention of tiles, but they are apparently very durable, impervious to staining, and should you smash a tile, I guess, reasonably easy to replace.
Anyone here have any tiled garages? Any probs?
Michel, I'm keen to see the info you have about the concrete treatment.
A few tile pics:

john will look for the info.
with finished concrete if not already poured you ask for a lighter coloured mix. there are also a bunch of admixes that densify, waterproof strenghten etc

Tom excellent pictures. What sump/pump system are you installing in case of flooding?

Paul, the pumps will be two very large ones I believe, a primary 240v and a battery powered back-up. I'll try and dig out actual the specs.
Here's the turn table being installed, I'll be able to have a better look at the progress on the weekend.

Looking good Tom. Have you chosen a floor finish yet?
