What's the correct carpet for my 71 T ?

With the doller at A+82c US, I'm trying to finish up on the improvements to my black car and wondering what was correct. I like the lighter charcoal colour that gives it that distinctly German feel. Is this correct or wrong ?? I'm looking at Appbiz any other suggestions ? Would you consider doing it yourself ?? their site suggests not ??

Also someone has sprayed? my hood liner black. Anyone replaced on and what colour should it be ? Again I presume a lighter colour???

Thanks any comments welcome.

Tiger, my 69 came with a white roof (now also sprayed black), I but I did hear that black was an option. Dunno about carpet colour, but definitely go with what you want. A 'tripple black' car might be a bit too much...

I hand made my carpets (I was bored and living in Townsville). I would definitely consider the Appbiz versions for their price and convenience (they won't be concours, but very nice none the less).

I found fitting the carpet relatively easy... careful use of a hot air gun, 3M adhesive in 'gel' format and a can of the aerosol version for hard to reach spots. Use weights or bricks wrapped in newspaper to keep pressure in key areas. Now here's the big 'tip' I found invaluable... a solid metal ice-cream scoop. You use the back of it to push, rub and stretch the carpet into contours as the glue grabs.

Hi Andrew my 71 t has a black liner - factory.

I also recently purchased an appbiz set - dk charcoal, perlon. about to fit it.

Colour is ok, though are a little thin and also are not vinyl edged. Instead having a thread bound edge.

I can also get the carpet sets (Appbiz)at a slightly better rate than advertised. They also usually charge an additional cost for RHD version. I am about to order another set so let me know.

How much is the carpet kit from them, what is their website and what about expected freight and taxes and is the perlon one also correct for 72'?. I'll need a set sometime too.

Andrew,

for the project i purchased a carpet kit from this mob, its a nice quality,

http://www.911parts.com.au/mainpage.1.htm

and purchased a new cream roof lining from an Australian ebay seller for about $200, fitted perfectly- I prefer the lighter interior as it opens up the inside a bit.

If you want the closest to factory you need to buy Haagen not perlon and not black thats for sure (spelling may be off) it has the closest combination of grey and white fleck that you can find anywhere.

Appbiz don't use it I don't think but Autos International certainly do. Its more expensive than domestic versions of course.

As Alex said some cars had the black roof lining most had the off white/cream colour. Check your build specs should specify black roof liner if it had it from factory

Haagen is available here in Australia, expensive to ship from USA, guys in Sydney could surely cut a set to match or you could if you have the skill. Can still buy a close to correct hair/pimple backing for the floor mats also and the correct or near to rubber for heel and centre tunnel

carpet

Autobahn interiors will do a set in haagarn 'salt and pepper' for around 900USD.

Appbiz interior carpet set perlon 230USD, trunk 51USD + 100USD freight.

There are cheaper freight rates

There is a Sydney firm who can also supply perlon or Haagarn sets though they are about 1600 OZ?

Haagarn correct for 70-71 etc i think Silverknit is form 77 onwards?

Last time I had this done here in Aust cost about $1,000 for the carpet and $500 for the cutting and fitting.

Suspect more than that now as that was about 4 years ago

Haagern is definately the way to go Andrew
