My intel was from someone who had seen the car in a workshop approx 5 years ago with the engine removed and disassembled to repair a split oil cooler. Apparently it was just re-assembled after the repair and no rebuild or refresh performed. yes its nice to have the original documentation and other items of provenance but its also nice to have a mechanically sound car too. all these things can indeed be fixed, but at a cost; which these days, is significant.

Interesting result indeed. It's worth keeping in mind that there was more than one party who saw this value in the car to push it up to it's final sale price. Could also be a statement about the market's lack of confidence in other asset classes at the moment.

I inspected the car and was interested as a buyer up to $220,000 including BP. My race ran early! I came up with around $27,000 to recommission the car without an engine or transmission rebuild but was prepared for the worst in that regard. The car was fantastic in its originality which is what appealed to me. Here's some images I took during the inspection.
Edit: Actually I can't post images for some reason. I have the images as Jpegs stored in a Photobucket album. The attempt to upload them using the "image" button and the "Upload from URL" resulted in:
This is not a valid image file.
Any ideas? I've not had any issues posting photbucket images in this manner in the past??
the key is that one person (well more than one) saw the value in the car and pursued it ... and I say good luck to them.
i think Clyde put it very well yesterday.....
car was interesting, was a cool period colour with a lovely interior, had many merits, and a fantastic history. Was it perfect no, but it was very good....
I say bravo to the new owner. Love it, enjoy it and drive it.
if they choose to join typ 901.... I offer a hearty welcome.
Thx for sharing Kane, a really interesting perspective from an industry advisor and seems to be on the money. Thought he was a bit harsh saying Porsche were mass produced though! Nev
