Interesting to hear from Hugh on this one. It looks to have some history and modifications.

The VIN doesnt look correct for a 911. Might be a 912 body ?

Come on Phil, you owned one.
          11801029 is a correct vin for 68S.
no pics of vin plates or engine to confirm specs.
can see quite a few features that are definately 68S.

Yes Sean, you are right. I didnt have my records of my old 68S available to check. Not sure when the VIN numbers started to begin with 911 but I am sure Hugh can correct me on this..
Thanks for the link but given its been unregistered for so long, I would be wary of the statement it was regularly driven. short trips up and down a driveway wouldnt have done it any good
Will be a bit of a journey for someone to resurrect this one so will be interesting to see what it sells for.

Wow. Reminds me a lot of my car when I bought it.

flared too if i’m not mistaken...?

lots to make it right if that was the path taken. But... that’s half the fun right?!?

Sean is correct it is a 1968S and I think it was originally an Australian ordered car as well. I have a record of it but not from an official Porsche database source. Before 1969 the way Porsche managed its records makes it near impossible to go and sort cars by delivery country of what country they are ordered from (my primary source is an original orders list but that only applied from 69 to 73 - any outside that have had to be confirmed one by one)

I do have a record though that it "probably" an original Australian ordered car that went to PNG - possibly delivered here first but maybe delivered directly to PNG as Hamilton's were the main handler for Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands at that time and that would have covered PNG.
I also have it showing as originally sand beige with engine number 4081266. If anyone looks at it I would love to have confirmation of that number and of a gearbox number which should be close to 4281000 if a 5 speed.

I would have thought that if anyone was contemplating it a check with Porsche or better still obtaining a kardex would be minimum due diligence needed on it even before closely looking at its condition

Also RHD cars were built in batches with consecutive or near consecutive vin numbers and I have 11801032 as also a RHD Australian car which increases the likelihood that this one is as well.

Hugh, great comments as usual and some good pointers to anyone thinking of buying it. a quick check just now shows current bid just above $90,000. I agree with you that a serious inspection is warranted when spending that sort of money given the obvious work needed to e done just from the few photos as posted.

Anybody have the engine number yet?
I requested it by phone, then directed to their email, still no response (probably don't know where to look).

Sold for $165,009.00 to someone in Double Bay in Sydney. (Actually $177,375 with buyers premium) I've often heard it referred to as "Double Pay" and I think this sale is an example of that. I sold my Aussie delivered matching numbers 68S a couple of years back and it was almost completely restored and I only got around $25K more than this price and this car appears to need a lot more than that spent on it to get it back to original.

Wonder if it will pop up on this Forum anytime soon ?

maybe it wasn't sold to someone in double pay. It now seems to be at Lloyds auctions https://www.lloydsonline.com.au/LotD...48&lid=3188323

And on this car even though I have been told in the past that it was an Australian car (but went to PNG), and it is called an Australian car in this auction and the previous one, Porsche apparently have it as German delivered in their database. Maybe the two things can be reconciled - Australian ordered (thus an Australian car) but tourist collection in Germany. But I would be wanting to see the kardex and make very sure of the facts before even contemplating bidding - especially if they are expecting more than $177K the last "sale" price
