FS 1989 Peugeot 205 GTi - Australian Delivered

In case any 901ers might be interested, or you have friends that might be interested.

“…. in the eyes of many the 205 GTI is quite possibly the greatest hot hatch of all time…..With its small dimensions, 875kg kerb weight and 1.9lt 4-cylinder motor good for 97kW, the 205 GTI was and more importantly still is a revelation to any keen driving enthusiast”

.” James Robinson Unique Cars Magazine, March 2017
Any 205 GTI will light up your life; no hot hatchback has ever been more beguiling to drive.
    Octane Magazine – 2017.

Here is your chance to confirm these comments for yourself. Offered for sale is our 1989 Australian Delivered 205GTI.

A generation 1 vehicle with 14 inch pepperpot wheels, and 75KW 1.9 engine. This car was purchased by the then Australian Peugeot Distributor Sime Darby. It was cosmetically restored over 2 years, and mechanically checked, with the intention of using it for press purposes. It was to provide the backdrop to press functions with the current 208 and 308GTI’s.

Unfortunately (for Sime Darby and Peugeot), after completion the car was not used its intended purpose. Fortunately (for the purchaser) the car was put on display, and hardly turned a wheel.

Since purchasing the car it has been thoroughly checked mechanically. All fluids were changed, the cam belt and water pump were renewed, and the clutch was replaced. All recent receipts available.

Now ideally positioned for the new purchaser to enjoy this mechanically sorted and pristine generation 1 Australian 205GTi. Enjoy driving it and also enjoy the fact you have purchased an excellent example of the archetypal hot hatch of the late 80’s and early 90’s. The 205GTi is on all of the current top 10 lists for classic and post - classic car appreciation.

      Looks neat Justin.
Why is there a 75-95kw discrepancy, for the uninitiated?

The first ones came in with 75kw ..... this is one of the first ones

Later they came in with more power, more features and more weight

It’s been a few years since I drove one of the newer ones, but the best analogy I can think of is 911 related. Think of the early ones as greater than the Sum of their parts.. a lot like an early 911.

The later ones were probably superior on paper, but they lacked the fizz of the earlier cars... a little bit like a 911Sc or Carrera 3..... note this isn’t a criticism of any of the cars involved ..... just an observation / comparison.

Ive owned a Carrera 3 - what I was trying to say - was the series 1 gti has characteristics very similar to a small bumper 911..... they are very tactile.

The later ones - while still very tactile - don't seem to feel the same. Everything is a little more muted and refined. But we are talking about only a very small difference.

Not wanting to split hairs or offend Carrera 3 or SC owners. What I would like to do is to sell the 205 to an appreciative new owner.
