On the run to and from Hangar Banger 2 on Sunday I had intermittent electrical problems that necessitated a tow truck journey the last 50 kms.
I believe the issue was caused by either my 1997 dated Laser Line immobiliser which I have now turned off using the control box on/off key.
Otherwise it is more than likely as I experienced 8 or more total power cuts to the engine that it is a faulty CDI unit. 7 out of the 8 times it cut out I could restart by turning the ignition key to the off position before pressing the immobiliser key pad, each time the car restarted immediately and traveled up to another 70 kms before cutting out again, Other times maybe 5 kms only. Once cool and taken off the tow truck the car started and idled fine but I have been loathe to drive it on the road.
For the record the car had major engine work undertaken by RSR about 10,000 kms ago so all the leads and components are in excellent condition.
The CDI unit fitted to my August 1978 build 930 is 0 227 200 004 which is the identical number to the unit fitted to my 1979 911 SC.
Can anyone confirm that both cars which were Australian delivered would share the identical 6 pin unit.
I need to isolate the intermittent problem so wondering if anyone has one that they are happy to sell, know of a supplier or anyone that can rebuild or test one.
The plan is that if CDI part number 0 227 200 004 s common to both my cars I will try the one of the SC on the 930.
