Kombi for Mr & Mrs Upwey

Surprise gift from Julie's Aunt Margaret this morning.
The 1973 Kombi was owned for 40 years by the deceased husband of a very good friend of AM. She had to sell it but wanted it to go to a good home for sentimental reasons, so AM purchased it and presented it to us this morning - a huge surprise as we had no idea why she summoned us to her home this morning. The Kombi was recently painted (original sky blue colour) and new tyres fitted. Interior is still original and needs a tidy up. Being a commercial van (it was used to transport band equipment) it only has two front bucket seats and has no back seats so can only legally carry two people. Does anyone know (Cambuscuit?) if rear seat can be fitted (I presume so). It also needs new door cards and better seats - they're currently a tan colour, but I'd prefer black - will be done over time. Would also be a good project to turn into a camper.
Any advice or ideas regarding Kombis would be appreciated.

That's very cool, when I grew up mum and dad had Type 3 wagon in the same colour. I say, keep the tan seats

Score! If it were mine I would add some bay window louvre windows to increase the visibility, rock 'n' roll bed in the back and a basic camper interior. Lots of good info on the Kombi Club forum Aus, or on The Samba forum US.

Any yes to the Porsche signwriting ;-)

                      This is great! Enjoy.

If for the time being you just want to add some rear seats to have a few passengers enjoy the ride you could add a 'middle' from a microbus. There should be recessed areas that allows for a through bolt, doubler plate and retaining clamp like the pic. If you can, try get a seat with seat belts incorporated because that can be painful...

New steering wheel for the Kombi arrived yesterday....just in time for Father's Day. (made in England by Aircooled Accessories.com) Same size as the original wheel (17")
Seats have been reupholstered (frames and springs restored) , new door cards made (not yet fitted), new cabin carpet made and all rubber mats for seat pedestals purchased, new door and tailgate rubbers purchased and other bits and pieces. Pretty much purchasing everything from Dasresto and Just Kampers in NSW.
Now awaiting painter to return to work after lockdown to paint entire floor and all internal metal which will be visible after linings fitted. Also painting the 5 wheels. All interior trimming will be done by Dave Scanlon (Volkstrim) who is recognised as the best in the business for Kombis - and best of all he lives only 4km from me in Upwey.
The entire interior will be lined and soundproofed . Still planning on the "PORSCHE" lettering on sides of van and considering Porsche shields on each door need to see some examples first.
Will also fit retractable beige coloured seat belts.
I reckon around $12k to $15 for entire job....................."slippery slope" did someone say?
