    Oil weight for Melbourne’s climate

    Happy new year everyone.
    Quick question.
I would like to teach my son how to do an oil change. My mechanic used liqui-moly when he changed it last time so I’m going to stick with the brand.
What weight would you all recommend for Melbourne’’s climate? Their website states 5W-40. I’m concerned that’s more appropriate for colder climates for ze Germans.
    This is for the 3.2.
    Any thoughts?

there are a number of mechanics (racing) that won't run LiquiMoli in old 911s anymore. For standard 911 engines, 20W-50 is good. Make sure it is a mineral oil and not synthetic. Gulf Classic and Porsche Classic products are the ones I use.

Alex is spot on, do not use synthetic oils - they cause leaks in older engines. I use Valvoline XLD Classic 20W-50 made specifically for pre 1993 engines.

        I find this topic interesting.
I change oil and filter every 12 mths irregardless of kms which is always minimal. My 911T and the 930 Turbo had been recently serviced by some of our highly regarded specialist workshops and I have continued to use the oils that were used by them.
Fuchs Titan XTM (synthetically enhanced)in the 930 turbo and Magnatec (part synthetic) in the 911T and (while not previously used) Magnatec in the SC.
Interesting the SC is the only engine that has a slight oil leak.
Interested for more anecdotes and feedback.
