I've driven both - and I have to say I prefer the 2.4's .... just a little more torque, while still being electrifying to drive.
2.2S's are sublime beyond 5000 rpm, but not so sublime below it...
Just my 2c worth.
Would I say yes to either or both, given the chance..... in a heart beat.

Are they as good as some say, i.e. better than the 2.4's.John Orchard

Congrats on the new toy John. I'm sure you will love it. I had my 71S out for a long drive through Royal National Park early Wed morning . . . even the aggressive packs of cyclists gave me a thumbs up.
I'd be fascinated to know how many of the 12 Aussie-delivered 71S cars are still around. I reckon I've come across 9 out of 12 over the past 6-7 years, though my notes might not be 100% accurate:
0029, my car, Bahia Red
0056, Irish Green, has been off the road for years and was being restored
0210, Light Ivory Green, Hugh helped find the matching engine, up in Newcastle now
0233, Light Red, I almost bought it back in 2013, restored by Auto Coupe, was Signal Orange for a few years
0380, Conda Green, used to belong to Toby G (maybe your new car?)
0391, should be Tangerine, the mystery chassis number swap with a Light Ivory 2.2E body
0524, Light Ivory, used to belong to Jason G
0766, Tangerine Orange, belonged to Garvs
