Moving along again with the 73E resto.

The car got to leave Melbourne Auto Upholstery today and now it's my turn for a while to add back lots of bits.

The car was originally delivered with the darkish brown vinyl in the specific 72/73 pattern, nothing close available anywhere in the world that we could find so went with full leather leather for the brown and a great match to 72/73 vinyl with the black vinyl.

Headlining from Southbound in the UK, near perfect match in colour and perforations and houndstooth from Gary FX also in the UK for the recaro sports seats.

The brown is a bit lighter but had some good grain to it and while not perfect I am very happy with the results. IMG_1444.jpg IMG_1400.jpg

Looks great Clyde - look forward to seeing this one in the "wild" as it were.

This is the car out of WA right - the one bought by the young fellow who had made a ton of money on mining shares?

Hi Clyde, really like the look of the carpets.

I'm restoring a 1971 T and I'm trying to work out what carpet colour I should be using (blue carpets added at some point in its life).
            The Porsche VIN Check detailed that my car was specified as;
            -Albert Blue 1818
-Leatherette Brown with Corduroy seat inlays.

I still have the brown basketweave door cards, rear quarter panel trims, and the bottom half of the rear window panel in the original brown which I will be reusing but I'm looking for advice on the carpet type and colour.

            Any suggestions?

              Hi David

Blue with brown interior, great combo.

It is most likely your car had the lighter tan interior as per the pic I will post, but you can see the carpet is very similar to mine this was in a highly original 71 USA car I owned at one stage.

The carpet in my car is the brown deluxe velour "hargaarn" carpet which is readily available here in Australia in the charcoal or brown as seen in my car and in the pic. Even has the "putty" colour binding.

There were 2 shades of brown carpet but only 1 is available now to the best of my knowledge.

You can buy the dimpled under felt for the 4 floor mats although the dimples are slightly smaller than original and the rubber piece sewn into the drivers side and same as centre tunnel cover is available in a very close rib pattern to original and hopefully, if the car is RHD, then your still have the right foot stainless steel plate that stops your right foot wearing out the carpet as you press the go fast pedal.

Easy to reproduce if lost though.

                Hi Clyde,
Thanks for the further info on the carpets. Mine is an Australian delivered RHD with the brown panels not the lighter tan as shown in your photo. That being said I think that the same coloured carpet that you have will work. Did your upholsterer make your carpets from scratch or were these purchased as a kit?

As you can see in my second photo, It appears as though my seats have also been partially recovered by a previous owner so while they are original brown on the edges they’re a lighter almost pinky tan in the middle, so need to find a solution for that as well.

                cheers
                David

They are the same colour just different light I suggest this is the other Porsche brown a deep chocolate brown which you definately don't have.

The carpets in this car were done by the previous owner and not a kit. A trimmer in Dandenong Vic did them. Where do you live?

I’m in Adelaide. I was looking today for suppliers of Haargarn carpet in brown, found one in Vic called Classic and European. Will also speak to a couple of the trimmers that I know locally to see what they can provide. Would you recommend any of the OS suppliers of carpet kits?

Your local trimmers should be able to access Hargaarn.

Funnily the place you mention in Vic is about 5 minutes from my home.

I would ask Mark Poole who to go to in Adelaide and I don't trust any overseas supplier to get RHD sets correct even though it is only a few pieces that are different to LHD they all stuff it up. I even supplied patterns to one and they still stuffed it up.
