Image processing Software to assist photo posting

    HI everyone,

i have posted this info before, but its timely to do it again with this new, photo-friendly Forum.

Erwin, can this be made a "sticky" or placed somewhere where members can refer to it?

    Go to the site: http://www.fookes.com/ezthumbs/index.php

and download the Eazy Thumbnails ver 2.8. This is the easiest software to use to downsize large digital images so they can be posted to this site.

There is also a manual to download if you need it.

When installing the software, ensure you check the box that enables Eazy Thumbnails to be added as an option in File Explorer.

This means you can browse your images in file explorer then once you have found the one you want to upload, you right-click on the image file, then select "make Thumbnail" from the drop down menu and a file of the same name, but with "tn_" added to the front of the name gets added into the same directory of the original file. You can elect to edit the file name of the new file if you want.

You should also change the default settings in Eazy Thumbnail so the image size you create is approx 800 x 600 (when you right-click and "make thumbnail". The default is 200 x 200 which is too small.

I hope this helps a lot of members who find changing image file sizes too hard.

lets see a lot more images now thanks folks !

Wish I'd seen this before, Phil. Great product, does it all with just one click.
    Thanks for resurrecting it.

You can easily change image sizes using "PAINT" that comes free with every Windows installation. Check in "Start", "Accessories".

"picasa 2" is another great free download product from Google. Darren Sharp put me onto it.
          Great for cataloging/creating folders/albums etc.
Use "Export" function to reduce photo size for posting.

Nice thing about Picasa is that you don't destroy the original when you make any changes. It manages the changes itself while maintaining the original and changes can usually be undone easily. I'll have a look at myimager too, thanks Irwin.

              Question for Irwin as administrator:
There will be quite a few of us blazing away at Phillip Island, as the opportunities will be many. Great cars, racing, looks like very good weather and, er, nice people (plug for Peter W!). Should we set up a special thread or maybe other type of area to store all these photos to save everyone searching conversational threads?

              Cheers

I can make a new category in our Photo Gallery for Phillip Island 2007 if people want this. People can then upload their photos there.

                        Mac users

                        I am a mac user.

For those of you with a Mac what do you use to downsize your images without messing around?

                        Cheers

Ed, surely the great Mac has some simple image handling software that allows you to re-size a pic down to the sizes acceptable on this board ??

Maybe experiment a little till you get images to the size you can post. I normally size them down to around 1000 x 750 and these seem to work OK

For mac users, Just click file - export. Turn it into a Jpeg file then reduce to medium res, then med size, and save as a doc, etc.
