    So most of the metal work is done now, and Jason has been able to put the shell on the rotisserie now.
    So next I can scrape off the remaining underside protection. that'll be a fun job!

    So what else has happened? I've ordered some seats (lollipop for the driver, an RSR for the passenger) and the Zuffenhaus RSR brakes are now only 4 or so weeks away.
    Just to recap, this is all that has been done on the empty shell to date to turn it into a 1973 F-series RSR body:

    - cut away pipes for front & rear hood latches;
    - fix G-series holes in the dashboard;
    - fix G-series holes in centre console and rear panel;
    - remove bagage loops in parcel tray & G-series seat-mounts;
    - create brackets to cover gaps & connect the GRP-parts
    - fit front RSR bumper, rear RSR bumper, hood & front GRP-flares;
    - create front turnsignal assembly bracketry;
    - cut G-series rear flares and weld on the RSR flares;
    - cut G-series bumper mounts;
    - weld in tunnel-reinforcement;
    - weld in front strut tower braces;
    - weld in brackets for the REPA harness in the rear parcel tray;
    - fit dual cylinder pedal assembly (metal panel differs from standard);
    - fit & weld in foot rest;
    - weld in rear shock reinforcements;
    - weld in (dual)coil bracket;
    - weld dual pump mounts in;
    - cut out G-series battery wheel arch panels & replace with F-series ones;
    - weld in battery blanking panels;
    - cut out G-series latch front panel & replace with (Dansk) F-series latch panel;
    - cut half of latch panel to fit oil cooler duct;
    - weld in oil cooler duct;
    - bracketry for central oil cooler;
    - holes in panel for extinguisher pull & electric cut-off switch;
    - reinforcement for RSR swaybar front;
    - hole for driver side mirror F-series in door;
    - fit rollbar and weld mounting brackets in;

    The big remaining to-do thing is the welding of the extension brackets for the (shortened) trialing arms, as to do that properly the rear seats need to be cut-out.

        On the rotisserie now so the last couple of welding jobs (pedal box floor - see picture) and the brackets for the shortened trailing arms can be done.
        Taking the opportunity to remove the 'schutz' from the underside. Good to get my hands dirty again.

        13 hours or so in, and still only half of it finished.
        Clyde knows how much fun this job is...

              Hey Clyde, inside is all done fortunately.... this really is the last bit and then i will never, ever remove the underside protection of a car ever again.

              @9er: thanks for the link - I already bought a set of these; Ben Coles in the UK made them for me. Looks though as if i need to check the birds for-sale forum more often...

                It's been a while so a good time for an update:

                There were a few jobs that needed completing before the sandblasting and priming could happen.
                Jason got rid of the metal tubes used for the hood mechanisms; they were removed for the RSRs as they’re not used and only add weight.
                Other jobs to do were closing the fuel-filler opening in the front left wing, welding the front latch panel to the added F-series front sides, welding the crow feet (ST-classic) for the roll bar onto the chassis and getting rid of the last bits of underside protection.

                  A new piece of metal was required to be welded in for the dual cylinder pedal assembly.
                  A nice piece of kit I purchased from TwinSpark racing in the Netherlands. The RSR had a dual cylinder system so that the brake balance between the front and rear could be changed between races so obviously that needed to go in.

                    In the mean time the ordering of parts continues. I managed to source a smaller 225mm fan & housing, 2 (black) ignition coils, RSR emergency brakes, and these beauties: NOS dry beaks as used on the works-RSRs in 73.

                    dry break 1.jpg

                    Picture of R6 - this is what is needs to look like:
                    XX1.jpg

                    Over the weekend to read the Konradsheim RS book once again to ensure I got the details right.
                    A few interesting things popped up.

                    the first one is related to the front fenders. Jason mentioned that the later RSRs all had GRP front fenders, but I never seen any proof of that.
                    I was of the opinion that this is one of the shortcuts that a lot of people use for a replica.

                    However, the book indicates that RSR #784 was delivered from the factory with GRP front fenders. This car is well documented as it raced extensively in Australia and is easily recognizable by the 3 louvres on each side on the fenders. (HOT-911)

                    The book also says that during the winter of 1972/1973 a lot of racing RSRs were upgraded to use more GRP parts in order to reduce even more weight. The book indicates that aprt from the roof the majority of parts would be plastic on those cars.
                    Now I doubt that R6 had the plastic flares at the Targa, but at least my project remains in line with the thinking and modifications they made at the time.

                    more to follow soon...

                      The car had to be put in the queue for media-blasting & priming due to bad weather so it all took a bit longer, but it's blasted now and in primer.
                      Not only does it finally start to look like we're on the way up, it also really shows the hard work put in over the last year to strip the car of its seam sealer and PVC protection layer as well as the various modifications done to the bodywork.
                      Next step, now the car is back at the Chequered Flag workshop is to start sanding... filling, and sanding a bit more. At least that's a job that I can participate in, so really looking forward to that.
                      A few pictures of what the shell looks like now. The rectangular piece on the rear slam panel (a G-series feature) that still visible in these pictures, is now removed.

                              I don't know - it had trouble uploading a few, but the 3 i managed to post in #70 are still visible on my screen. Can't you see them?

                              edit: watching it from a different PC showed that the pictures were not visible - fixed now by reloading/editing
