Mr Belford's handy work plus Sierra Madre's handy work in reproducing the correct seals and we have a no longer available RHD 85 litre tank/steering rack protection plate available again.

The yellow peril has been in the wars lately had a fire up front which required some new wiring and some new paint so have taken the opportunity to paint the whole car.

Paint was bad as many will remember and it was on the schedule at some stage but the fire has accelerated the process

I also added Mahle Motorsport pistons and barrels to the list of improvements should have close to 10.2 :1 comp ratio now

Currently pulling it apart in lock down and doing all that fine cleaning that makes the difference.

Looking good Clyde, which is no less than we expect from you.

Curious, is this engine twin plugged? I thought a comp ratio over 10 on standard fuel was dangerous?

A fire? Pleased it ended well then.... with the fire promptly extinguished and very little damage.

Not aware of that Paul but no not twin plugged

My old 73S Targga has 2.2 pistons and barrels so producing close to the same comp ratio and I may have the number slightly wrong anyway will check with Kane

Could have been a nasty incident what with a plastic fuel tank and all

My understanding is that you can get away with 'E' pistons but the step up in compression ratio with 'S' is problematic on regular fuel, without twin plugging. Kane will undoubtably be the authority - I'd be interested on his take as I'm taking a similar upgrade path with my 2.0 engine which is soon to be rebuilt.

I'm guessing arcing.. ground strap to +ve or similar... hard to imagine a battery doing that to itself without some intervention. Regardless, glad you and car got off lightly. Hopefully insurance can cover it..
