I'll be honest and say that I really want this item; however I can't afford it with a pending holiday to NZ next fortnight

Wouldn't stress too much.....you would not have been happy to spend that money and recieve that dash which was was an ordinary recover...see the close up pics that is not german vinyl grain.
Funny I bought a new RHD dash from NZ a few months ago for less than that that had been sitting at a dealers for over 17 yearsClyde Boyer

I know what you mean John. I get over to the South Island pretty frequently, often driving between Christchurch and Dunedin, rubbernecking at large sheds in paddocks. There is never much Porsche stuff. There are though some great workshops where nifty craftsman work flat sheets of aluminium into gleaming C and D type replicas. Good ones too. Most of those cars are bought by Americans at a couple of hundred K each.
There is somewhere on the South Island a lodge which has a little P car collection, '73 RS included, cant remember though were it is....
......don't know what Cam gets up to in NZ?.....

We've just arrived back in Christchurch for a couple of days having pretty much circumnavigated the South Island. The roads have been absolutely fantastic - my wife is entirely sick of me refering to "another great Porsche road". What a pitty it isn't as easy to get to as, say Tasmania...
Oh, anyone that hasn't splashed out on a Garmin Nuvi/Sat Nav is crazy... it has to have been one of the best gadgets I've ever bought myself! Not one argument over map reading with the wife - worth the purchase price alone!!!!John Forcier

Hi John.
We're currently at the Crowne Plaza in Christchurch - very nice...
I did some homework on GPS and my former job relied on knowing satellite and GPS softwate (Arcmap and Arcview). I went with a Garmin Nuvi at $499 from JB HiFi because Garmin has mapping for EVERYWHERE. The Tomtom are great but just don't have the worldwide coverage that might be required by some. I've rented the NZ mapping from 'Johnny Appleseed' for $52 on a SD card, and can rent anywhere else in the world for the same kind on money (cheap).
The other great thing about the GPS is that my car has never had an accurate speedo due to gearbox changes and tyre diameters, so now I have a nearly infallible speedometer 'just in case'.
Cheers
