    FS- South African '71 911E

I've made a decision to regretfully offer to the market for sale my 1971 911E RHD Sunroof Coupe (South Africa C17 delivered) after much deliberation.

*Some members of this forum assisted me with the appraisal deliberation in a previous thread so apologies for the repeat of information*

Despite having owned and enjoyed more than I can count on my fingers, including more significant models, but this one was intended as my forever car and I imported it into Australia following my own emigration having been in my possession for the past decade and in dry high altitude storage for the bulk of that time.

Other than the 901 'box replacing the Sportomatic as delivered, it is in wholly original condition. Silver (80) colour with minimal evidence of rust, all factory options as delivered, and matching engine and chassis numbers confirmed by Porsche Classic Dept.

One of the few survivors in original nick that has never been modified, updated flared, raced, molested or abused.

Super rare Recaro Idealsitz in original black leather sport seats are included at the asking price, but can be removed and a BYO seats arrangement to reduce the asking price by $10K.

Mechanically good and strong, running original MFI but of course there are always more details that could be attended to on the journey of early engines. 20 years worth of service and repair work documentation history by Porsche-only specialists. Spare wheel and tool roll present (missing some tools)

So all up an honest investment-grade car that would be an excellent base for restoration as everything is present and correct (barring Sporto) , or simply to drive and enjoy as it is.

Not Australian delivered, hence priced realistically at $175K within this forum. In a world of low to negative interest rates better than cash in the bank

It will be posted on the 901 forum first and then PFA for awhile, before braving the public channels of sale.

Not sure if PM are working again since update but contact me via this post for more information or pictures.

Thanks Mick. It's a momentus decision. There will be tears when she drives away. Unless I change my mind again.

My old dad once took 5 years to "sell" his old motorcycle. Strangely buyers never found the address.

          Hi Mick

I was not expecting fireworks, especially as most people don't read the blurb and just see asking price. That said I've had a decent amount of interest. I've also learned a bit more about my car through the PPi's. Strangely, as one discusses the merits of that which you have for sale, your affinity for it grows again and second thoughts about selling once again emerge. It is a good thing as it steadies resolve to not give it away, and I've been talking to mechanics to attend to the points I would like to in the view of continuing ownership for a few more years. It feels like I'm being fickle but these are more than just cars. To quote, "such is the tyranny of things"

          Will keep the forum posted

Hey, welcome to the 901 forum JonoF !

Thanks fellas but the fat lady has not sung yet.

My ask was on the optimistic side given an import and I made it clear to all punters that they should put their best foot forward. Interestingly most offers were the same figure which could be the market talking but I did state that was my minimum base of acceptance in the ad. I made it very clear that money would need to be spent on it and soonish to protect the matching # investment and understand that would deter some puntres as there was the potential to overcap.

A gent from Melbourne met me halfway on price, sight unseen. Interestingly he has not requested a PPI as yet but paid a decent non refundable deposit to secure conditional upon a delayed settlement while he waits for funds. Fair enough.

I told him that I thought it odd (read suspicious) that someone would spend the coin without personal inspection or PPI by a shop. His reply was that there is not a lot of choice out there and it was a chance he was willing to take. Seems to be down the line but I remain cautious. I suppose if the deposit is in my bank and the car is in my garage I can't see an angle to it?

For what it's worth (perhaps not much), I had something similar when I sold my Maserati Mexico 6 years back. Guy from New Zealand had been emailing with various questions. Initially low-balled me. I wasn't in a hurry...eventually he agreed to my full asking price. Never saw the car/ didn't fly over. I was skeptical- asked for a decent deposit to pull down the ads. He put $25k in my account. I put the car in for a service - gave him my mechanics details and told him to feel free to call/ ask questions. He never called.

At this stage, I was worried that the car was leaving the country without me fully certain what was going on. Asked to negotiate a suitable arrangement so we both felt protected- he responded by putting the full balance into my account. Boat didn't sail for another 4 weeks- I had all of his money, and still enjoyed my car for another month! We never even spoke on the phone...go figure!

I have bought 2 Porsche sight unseen. When they arrived I was extremely happy with both of them. Also bought a 1962 Corvette privately out of America but again had a lot of photos and paperwork that I requested prior to doing the deal. I think it depends on how the car stacks up and what history and paperwork is available and it helps if you can talk to the workshop that looks after it. After hearing some recent horror stories I realise I have probably been fortunate.

He's a Chinese gentleman. True enthusiast by the sound of it. Has a 997 Turbo but wanted a longhood. Perhaps I can convince him to join the forum.
