Surely someone in the world will know where that chassis is? Can't be many '73rs around that are still non-matching.

A quick look in the RS book will confirm the chassis number

Hi Jim, the original RS body has died the Rallycross death but the chassisnumber has been moved over to an 911 T body. So it will never be a matchning nr car again.

better to have been driven and crashed than never to have been driven at all?!?

but then probably also better that the engine is never reunited with the T body to create confusion...?

Ahhh, fair enough.... I would have thought that would make this engine overpriced then? If there's no chance of it ever being re-united with the chassis, surely it knocks the value way down... ?

The Engine is not mine Mark. Obviously with everything for sale it is no doubt negotiable.
I wouldn't have a clue what it's worth at all.
I suppose anyone who has an RS has already emailed the guy with an offer.

No doubt... in the end (like everything) its worth what someone will pay.

That's usually how it ends. Or you keep it because you want a hell of a lot of money for it. What's an RS engine even worth?

The problem with an RS engine is that internally it is unremarkable and in fact ripe for improvement (using higher CR pistons and better cams). You and I can build one from any 7R case and off the shelf parts (internals and P&Cs all still available). It's true value lays with the original chassis and if not that, then with another genuine RS chassis - and there can't be too many unaccounted for RS cars left out there?

For the kind of coin being asked, we could build that fantasy 3.5l SS MFI monster and couple it to a custom box

It's relatively valuable to anyone needing a 911/83 type engine. Applies to:
                        -73 RS
                        -74 Carrera 2.7
                        -75 Carrera 2.7
                        -76 Carrera 2.7 Sondermodell
Total of about 3700 cars there.
