    WTB Bosch Black Coil

    Hi all,

My coil failed in the green car over the weekend... another trip ended on the back of a tow-truck (ironically the same truck and driver that picked me up last month).

I'm looking for a replacement - preferably a Bosch black coil. I might be looking to trade a working 3 pin CDI unit for it.

My car is running later CDI ignition.

Does anybody have a stash, or can recommend a source? How about our sponsors?

I'm note sure what they are worth... I guess I'll soon learn?

Keep your eye on ebay, I picked up a nos one for about 40 bucks. Not sure what they are worth new? Plenty of aftermarket stuff around that will suit that would likely be cheaper than genuine. You can always spray them black...

Sorry but I'm keeping my spare as a backup

Can you send me some pictures... so I know what I'm looking for?

And advise the searchwords you used?

        Black Bosch coil

        R M,

I have just the story to make you reach for the bucket !
Since my amazing / beyond belief story re buying my $111 nos black Bosch coil from Ma and Pa Kettle's auto parts in CA , I have been looking for something similar for Grant - or ,more accurately,Bill Pye's next Targa Tas 911.
I found one 2 Saturdays ago for sale in CA - black coil - nos - right part number - it went for US $ 203.50 last Wednesday.I alerted Grant about it but I have no idea if he bought it or not.
I have the part no. if you want - call me.
Do NOT buy the silver Brazilian coil !!

        Cheers,
        Dennis.

If you ended up going after market you could consider the MSD High Vibration Blaster coil. Filled with epoxy so can be mounted any way you want, already black and when you peal off the bling sticker looks pretty stock, albeit a little longer.

thanks Paul... where did you get it? And approximate cost?

To be frank I just want something that works...

Ending an otherwise good drive on a tow truck is for the birds.

Sounds like you might be sorted but i just searched for Porsche + bosch. No pics available, sorry the car is still in Adelaide

Dennis's lead sounds like where mine came from, nos and still in the box. Just a bit cheaper!

Change out of $50AUD on ebay US. Should run through a stock CDI box though worth searching pelican for someone who's done it to confirm. I've just installed an MSD unit and run it off that.

                Cheers

                  Guys

Bosch Aust have a good tech area that I have found very useful in the past. 1800 801 872 or 03 9541 5555. Give them all the original specs you can find and I would expect there should be a readily available coil that's compatible with the CDI.

                  Cheers

For what it is worth, I use a Bosch GT40R that you can guy from just about any speed shop, and it is about $45. They are cheap and work perfectly, and if they fail you can get a replacement just about anywhere in the country! You can get the GT40 which does not have the resistor. Ask you mechanic which one you need but that is the easiest solution I have found!

The GT40R is what I've just removed from my car and it's been bullet proof.

The Bosch P/N to look for on the CDI coil is 0.221.121.00 or p/n 025.
This is the same on the silver coil as well as the black one.
Do not buy the silver one - too many disaster stories on the Early S site !
Yes - these black Euro made coils DO come up on e bay from time to time as NOS items - I got mine by searching for 'Porsche 911 coil'

                        Cheers,
                        Dennis.
