    1968 911 For Sale

I will be placing my 911 with an agent in the near future but wanted to let other members here know first. This really does hurt, as some of you know. It is such a lovely car to drive, but a new project beckons ...

    The details are:

    Porsche 911 1968

One of the first series made of the classic Porsche 911. Perhaps the best looking of the 911’s with its clean lines and no wheel flares. This Kardex-matching numbers car is in original 2.0L six-cylinder specification, colour and with all original panels. The engine was re-built in 2015 after 130K miles by respected specialists DHM in Brisbane with specialist engineering by Phil Summich. The car has completed 3500kms since the engine rebuild. No expense was spared on new components, including ‘Nickies’ LN Engineering cylinders, JE pistons, new valves, guides, rods, main bearings, oil squirters, re-surfaced and tested cams and crank, new cam chains, case savers and a larger capacity SC oil pump. A bearing was installed on the intermediate shaft for longevity, unlike most cars in this first series.New engine and transmission mounts and half shafts were also fitted, along with a stainless Monte Muffler.

A new starter motor with a relay, new front anti-roll bar and fuel pump were added.

This is not the lower powered 911 “T” car. It is the full 130+HP early car that was sold internationally.

Originally from southern California, the car is its original paint colour, having been stripped to clean metal on all panels and underbody and repainted with the correct Glasurit paint in Burgundy Red (6808). An original factory Kardex and Porsche CoA come with the car.

Correct original ‘comfort’ seats in excellent condition are with the car, but the seats currently fitted are quality replicas of early Porsche Sports seats, with a quality red/white/black houndstooth(pepita) insert pattern in Scottish wool weave. The restored original wood rimmed steering wheel is also supplied, but the car also has a rare 1968 MOMO (stacked logo) 370mm Prototiposports wheel. The interior panels are in excellent condition with unmarked door panels-rare for this model. New gear shift bushings and a new brake master cylinder were fitted.

The Blaupunkt radio is Z-Series 1968, as are the driving lights and fog lamp 911 on Veridale.jpg s. The wheels have the valuable 15” Fuchs rims and Michelin period-correct XWX tyres. New Koni shock absorbers are fitted all round.

No expense has been spared on this car with new rubber suspension bushings (Elephant Racing) all round, complete brake rebuild (the valued ‘78 series Brembo callipers are fitted on the front, but the restored ATE originals supplied). The original tool kit, jack and handbook are supplied, as is the QLD ‘plate “POR68”

The electrical system was fully checked, and extra relays fitted to preserve original switches and enhance voltage delivery. H4 headlamps were fitted, all instrument gauges were refurbished and new rubbers fitted to doors, windows, screens and fenders. New carpet was installed, as well as Coco Mats.

This collectable car remains in its original factory LHD format and has not lost potential international value due to a conversion. Those who have actually driven LHD cars know that after a week, any lack of immediate familiarity is gone. Only the driving pleasure remains. The car is well known in Australia and has many posts and references on the Australian 901 Forum:

    https://www.typ901.org/forum/forum/t...engine-re-furb
    https://www.typ901.org/forum/forum/t...72-re-painting

Costs of importing cars from the UK and elsewhere, have recently been increased significantly by new Australian regulations about asbestos in components. This original car has none of these concerns and is here!

This highly original car drives beautifully, steers perfectly, sounds superb, rides quietly and looks magnificent. Nothing to do – just drive it.

This is one of the best presented 911s in Aus.
Unlike most of the LHD and converted cars on market, this one is priced appropriately. If you are seriously in the market, this car is an excellent buy at Merv’’’s price and offers very good value to the buyer.

Thanks Scotty. Yes we Aussies can be pretty timid with LHD cars, unlike our UK cousins. Often we miss good original cars and finish waiting and waiting and then buying something that needs major body/rust work and engine rebuild. I was the same until I drove the car and I realised that I was so wrong. Many of the leading collectors and owners on this Forum have many LHD cars.

Too cheap Merv. Dealers would be close to $200K or even Pounds in the UK. Didn't Bowdens express an interest not that long ago?
        And the new Project is???
        Cheers

Beautiful car Merv, and best of luck with the sale (if not already sold).

I too think it's too cheap – but then again I am biased.

Scotty - not sure if your comments pertain to my car but it would seem so given it is the most expensive LHD car on market. If so, they may be deserved and I do not take offence. By inviting feedback on my original post, I did hope to solicit some pricing discussion – particularly the LHD discount. Given Merv’s example, perhaps we can add to the list of interesting discussion points (1) restored versus original; and (2) SWB vs LWB?

Remember the restored “Limoncello” US unconverted 71T? Don’t know what it ended up selling for but between it and Merv's car, I know which one I'd rather have.

I know we can all be guilty of waxing on about fellow forum owners cars, but this one really is special.

As Scotty points out genuinely priced.

I will also go on record as saying that I would make a generous offer on the prototipo and sports seats as a package, as I think their true value would be diluted in the overall sale.

GLWS Merv, agree with the others, great value and excellent opportunity for someone to get into a SWB 901.

Wow Merv, sorry to see this! I hope the next project has a flat 6 also...
Great price, certainly would struggle to put together such a quality car for that! If you need projects I am your man... haha!
