2.4T MFI totally rebuilt engine for sale

Has anyone got interest in a 2.4T MFI engine that has zero miles since rebuild suits 72/73

MFI done by best in world Gus Fister at Pacific Fuel Injection
    Throttle bodies by renowned Eurometix
Machining by Ollies, rebuilt rods and balancing (USA)

Engine currently in USA so allow 6 weeks for delivery

I don't doubt its a wonderful engine, rebuilt by people who know a thing or two... and that it will give years of honest service... and extremely reasonable when you compare it to a new rebuild.

        But 44K to rebuild a 2.4T motor?

I've heard this type of money being mentioned in terms of race 2.7 Carrera and Carrera 3 motors but not a T.

Justin, I think what Clyde meant was if you ave to obtain absolutely everything lke crankcase, crankshaft etc, not just rebuild what you already have. Basically you could sell off all the bits of your old engine if the cases and crank were all OK.

so, anyone want to put forward the spreadsheet that comes to $44K? not questioning the number (I have an invoice from Reg Mort about 10 years ago that was $25K, so $44 now doesn't seem too mad)... just curious on where the money goes.

Go out and find a good Mag case and see what that costs. ($3000 ?) Also find a good crankshaft ($1500 ?), 2.4 P & C's - remember these are way more expensive then 2.7's (maybe $10,000 ?, I think they are $13500 from Porsche). Good set of heat exchanges - even if you go for SSI's - $2500.

Starting to add up yet ?

Then dont forget all the seals, gaskets etc you need and dont say you would use the std off the shelf set as many of these seals are just crap.

Machining costs can also add $2000. Then labour. The porsche hand book suggests about 42 hours but its more like 80 hours x $90 (at least for someone good) = $7200.

Add in plating, powdercoating, ignition leads, plugs, distrib rebuild, and I havent even mentioned the MFI system work yet. Pump is anywhere from $2000 to $7000 (if you get Bosch germany to do it. Forget Pacific Fuel Injection (Pfeister) as he takes a year to get it done. Redoing all the throttle bodies, butterflies and shaft bushes and dont loose any of the cold start injectors as they are NLA. I paid around $ 100 ea. for them and you need 6.

Of course you can do it yourself and save money but without the benefit of extensive experience on thee engines, I bet you dont get it right and still have oil leaks.

I am not trying to defend Clyde's $44K figure but it might not be far off.

And I have rebuilt several 2.4 engines in the recent past so I have the current costs. Thats why I wonder sometimes when people go for the cheapest cars out there for sale and then get the bad news about the real costs to get it right.

I would say Shane's car at $44K is a good buy. I love silver cars too.

Thats a good start Rich. If I have time to scan some invoices, one can also see the costs of all the little parts you forget about.

Machine barrell to Cyl head interfaces: $630.00

4 fuel line clamps (for MFI): $191.48 (these are plastic !)

and the list goes on and on......

Hate to scare anyone off but these are real costs you get during an engine rebuild.
