          Not what it appears

I dropped into take a brief look at this car this morning, as the dealer is just down the road from my office.

The VIN plate seems to be repro so not sure how much of it we can trust.
The VIN number, if correct, is clearly not a 1971S but rather a 1970 911T Coupe. I did not drive it, but just looked.
My impression is of a fairly neglected car. The images on carsales give a fair view of the exterior. The interior smells very moldy. The sun roof seals are missing so the ingress of water could account for that. The interior is SC in every detail. The engine bay is very dirty with minimal signs of attention.
According to the salesman, it drives extremely well. It has a 3.2 motor and I am told a G50 box. Massive rear tires and toilet drain sized exhaust are probably more for show.
It could be an original RHD, but there is a huge amplifier bolted in over the smugglers box, so I could see if it had the larger or smaller box. From what I could see, the firewall seems original, although I would not claim to be an expert.

This looks an expensive undertaking unless you fancy a 3.2 backdate project.
          Good luck.

well... it's the only sub-$40k early 911 on carsales at the moment...

one of these would seem on paper to be better value?

I spoke to the owner of the latter 1970T and he seemed a very genuine guy. I ultimately choose a different route but have been surprised this very presentable red T was not snapped up some time ago as it looks like a perfect candidate for a reasonably priced rolling restoration.

It looks a decent car for the money. I wonder what the front seats are from?

                    Merv,
the interior is all later SC stuff including the dash, door panels and pulls and the seats, which have had the front sections retrimmed in the same hideous blue as the body.

Merv, the front seats look like Turbo G series Sports seats.

I cant believe someone would consider this car as an 'early car' to then go and spend plenty to get it back to original condition. There are far better candidates around.

                      VIN plate looks very dodgy.

Not 1971, there is a centre air vent in the dash and i think that makes it a 3.2 with 964 bumpers. the dealer has got the dates all wrong. As a 3.2 it's a pretty good price if it is sound.
