Auxiliary stop light on deck lid

I have bought a second red boot lid with whale tail to dress up the 86 ex Hong Kong Carrera cabriolet. The lid will be resprayed Grand Prix White but currently has 3 holes where an auxilliary stop light had been mounted which I intended having welded up prior to paint. Can anyone tell me in which year these brake lights were introduced and were thy fitted on a ll or just some cars or into some markets or were they an aftermarket addition,

The 3rd brake light was legislated in Aus in 88-9 I think, which is why late G Cabs and Speedsters all have these.

Thanks guys; the answers I was hoping to hear. Will remove all traces of the appendage!!
As the car has concourse potential I have chosen to retain the original lid anyway.
