    Le Mans...

    no, not the movie!!

we're off to europe for 3 weeks in june. part of which is driving from paris to normandy to check out some beaches and a tapestry...

anyway, i was wondering what is at le mans, seeing as it seems relatively close on the map... and whether it is worth the grovelling/bribery needed to get there?

    cheers

Richard , the Le Mans 24 hour sports car race is on the 14/15 June . It is a must see - I have been 6 times in the last 11 years so I am biased . The race and the atmosphere of the circuit are totally unique . This year it is going to be a serious battle between the diesel Audis and Peugeots for outright honours but the racing for all the classes is fascinating .Usually Porsches figure highly in the GT2 class battle but last year was the first year for a very long time that Porsche did not figure even with a class win . Too much effort going into SUV design . If you want to really see it and in particular at night you need to stay nearby and finding beds can be difficult this late . Also most wives and partners hate it so be warned .
Otherwise it is the Le Mans Classic --12/13 July -- which I am going to this year for the first time .

Has anyone been to the Lemans Classic?

I'm in Europe at that time & guess what - I have a free weekend!!

Is there a website I can look through?

Marcus -- see http://www.lemansclassic.com/2008/index.html Also note that if you want to go in the Paddock ( which has to be a must ) you have to buy the ticket in advance .

                Thanks John,

Just found out Goodwood is on the same weekend - Now I have a dilemma.

                Which is better?

Marcus --I've been to GFoS a few times and it is superb but it is getting very crowded and it loses a lot if it rains -- which it did last year.If you have not been I'd say go to Goodwood because it is so special but then I'm hoping that the Le Mans Classic will be the same . Note that if you do decide to go to Goodwood you must buy ticket in advance -no admission ticket purchase at the gate .

                      Marcus,

Dave Belford is going to both Goodwood and Classic Le Mans so you 2 should hook up beforehand.

I beleive Dave will see Goodwood on the Friday, then take the TGV Sat morning to Paris then drive to LeMans that afternoon for the racing on Sunday.

Dave is WERK1 on this board

                          Yep,

I'm arriving in London a couple of days before the FOS. I plan to do FOS on the Fri and have got my grandstand tickets. I know you probably need a couple of days there as I've been the revival meeting and you certainly don't want to do that in just a day, but I have to go to France any way so I thought I'd do Classic Le Mans as well. Traveling on the Sat, train in the morn to Paris, then pick up a car (new GT2) I wish probably a Pug, and drive to Le Mans. Staying in a 14th Century building in Chateau Du Loir, outside of Le Mans for three nights, then off to Burgundy for a few weeks.

Really looking forward to it, and it would be great to catch up with some Typ 901ers over there!

For those of you attending GFoS and CLM I have just one acronym for you...

                              F Y F A a F L F B o F

Clue: The "F" is Chef Ramsay's favourite word used as a verb, adverb adjective and noun.

                              Have F fun
