Help Wanted for 40th Birthday Present

After inspiration from reading the "truth in advertising" post. I'm trying to find a birthday present for a friend that is turning 40 in a few weeks and I thought that there are a number of nutty enthusiasts that could help me because I've reached a dead end....

To give you a bit of background, some of his attributes include a passion for fast cars, although not all of his choices are widely favoured by all, sometimes considered loud or garish. His attention to detail and research is excellent, although not always seen in the final result. I'm concerned that if I enter into this world of old Porsche cars, that I know he likes, I may come up with a winner, but equally I could fail dismally. I know he's been lusting after a set of 9" and 10" Fuchs, haven't we all....

He has discernible and flamboyant taste in clothing and an area that I am not considering as I think he may be a bit fussy.

He's just remodeled his house and I think they have bought just about everything. Not to mention I think he's a bit of a neat freak.

I know he likes exercise, but he sees himself as a bit of a heman, and you gussed it, he's got it. eg bike, skate board, I think scooter, motorbike and the ****ing list goes on... Not to mention a good stock of cars.

He's also a gadget man so finding something along these lines is difficult and probably not practical given the prices of of little electronic joys.

He likes wine and has a taste for exotic grape types and vintages, so I think I'm stuck here unless someone knows of something that is cheap and unknown ??

Can someone please help as I need to get a present organised ASAP and I'm done putting any thought into it.

    Help !

Perhaps short suggestions would be good.................... anyone?

For Julie's 40th, she threatened that if I gave her anything that resembled a kitchen or household appliance I could expect to get it rammed up my a@$e

...............so I bought her a lawnmower, and to my delight - it doesn't fit - fooled her :p

Buy him a 2nd hand turntable. That ticks the gadget box but is retro enough to be cool.
He might discover his old vinyl or send him on a quest to track down some vinyl.
The stock market may be heading down, but limited edition vinyl keeps going up. Specially 7" singles.

Really Brett? So my ABBA "Dancing Queen" single is worth something now?

Audiophiles are now returning to vinyl in a big way
My son (the Volvo driver ) has resurrected our SystemDeck" turntable, fitted a new Schure cartridge and is into purchasing new vinyl records from some place in Prahran - usually Aussie rap (Bias B and others )

............so I go along with Brett's suggestion - buy him some Aussie rap crap on vinyl

Well ABBA is probably one of the biggest sellers of our time (that's our time Mr Upwey, not days of yore) so...

But lets say if you did want a 7" Aust. release version of "Gimme, Gimme, Gimme" , you could pick one up immediately for $46.98. Not bad considering it originally would of sold for a dollar or so.

So hang on to your vinyl Johm
