    Scam Alert???

I've been looking to source parts for my engine rebuild and was contacted by someone in the UK who must have read the post here on TYP901 and sent me an email.

I might be wrong, but once I suggested that I had someone "nearby" who could visit him and check the parts condition for me - he vanished!!!!!

A Google earth of his address shows a house without a "shed" full of Porsche bits. Happy to apologise to Simon if he was genuine, but my scam antenna is buzzing......!!!!!

Maybe I'm just getting paranoid in my old age?

    Here is the email trail.

    Hi Tom,
I still have the 2.4 to 2.7 + 3.0 carrera, turbo crankshaft, con rods
and 2.7 block. I do not have images but they are in excellent shape
and condition. I'm asking £230 for them plus shipping. Let me know and
also get back to me with your complete shipping address.
    Thanks,

    Simon.

    Hi Simon
The price for the parts sounds reasonable but freight might be the killer.
Address is below, an estimate of delivery time would be handy if available.

    Hi Tom,
I just confirmed your shipping address and shall make shipping
arrangements immediately. I have made affordable shipping inquiries so
you would not need to spend a fortune on shipping. It would cost £65
to get the parts shipping to your address on a 4 business days
delivery. Total price would be £295GBP shipped and delivered to 5/220
Albert Road, South Melbourne Victoria Australia 3205. Let me know.
    Cheers,
    Simon.

    Hi Simon,
    That all sounds great.
Just to help me assess the condition can you please send me some photos of
    the parts.
Also if you’re able to confirm a few details for me I think we have a deal
    • is the crank standard size
    • are you aware if it has been ground at any point
    • the condition of the case, any sign of corrosion
    • is the case aluminium or magnesium
    • do you have the part/serial numbers or year of manufacture dates

Thanks for your help with this, I’m guessing you read my call for help post
on TYP901, are you a fellow 901er or just clearing out the shed?
    Cheers
    Tom

    Hi Simon

Bummer about the photos, I really need to confirm the numbers that will be stamped on the block etc.
We might be in luck though, I've got a good mate (aust expat) living in Leeds and he owes me a few favors and knows his Porsche stuff.
Let me know a time that's convenient for you and I'll arrange for him to meet you and to check them for me.
    Cheers

    Tom

no shed isn't necessarily a deal breaker - both my dad's sheds (or warehouses) are located away from his house...

unable to post photos because of poor internet is probably a bigger alarm bell for me. but then again there are lots of non-techies out there.

i think we also have 1 typ901'er in london...
