Rich, you were driving a DNA Porsche cousin
The 944’s engine used the patented balance shaft technology developed by Mitsubishi (as used in the 2.6 L Astron engine) to minimise vibration. Porsche had to pay Mitsubishi a fee of $8 for every engine using this system.

I have always felt that a REAL Porsche (or Ducati) used an engine developed by the company. Now I have even more reason to dislike the the 944 (apologies to anyone here that owns one), they don't use a REAL Porsche engine but borrowed bits from the Japs.Jeff Eelkema
