Confusing street signs

Here is a street sign from near home, I have always been amazed why this ever happened.
Has anyone else seen some thing similar?

I reckon its a plant by Southland Auto Elec so people will take photos of the signs and so advertise their business. Then again.. I've seen some similiarly stupidly placed signs.
I'll be on the look out for them now Mike.
