    Snow chain hire...

    Not for the 901

Planning a few days in the Victorian snow fields next week. My lovely new shiny Touareg has an issue... 275/45 R20 - with bugger all clearance between the rear of the wheel and suspension.

Have done some reading online and it appears my only option (apart form buying a second set of wheels / tyres) is Thule K-Summit XXL at $789 RRP - Ouch. A lot of coin for something that is likely to stay in its bag.

And to add insult these are not currently legal on the Great Alpine Road (though not an issue for me on this specific trip.)

Have been trying to find a hire outfit that can help, but no glory.

Any suggestions - returning the vehicle and buying a proper four wheel drive is not an option

    Thanks

          Huge thanks Phil.

Richard was not available but his offsider Phil helped me out. Turns out the Thule XG Pro 12 fits the current Touareg with 275/45R20s, not that their website indicates as such.

Is there any problem the Typ901 forum can't solve!

Chains usually have to be carried for ice. There are 4WD's and then there are 4Wd's these days. Some are token off roaders.

Richard also sells the Nokian snow tires and if you have these fitted on yr 4WD then chains are not needed. These tires are that good.

I was sure they had experience with a Toureg as they no doubt have seen this issue before.

Glad the Forum could help you Dirk.

You calling me a poser in rolling on 20s in my black SUV with barely legal tint? Sure I'll feel at home in the Victorian Alps
