    Julie's '63 Beetle

Just a sneak preview of Julie's VW resto. taken last Friday at Mike Tankard's.
Just about ready to be sent off for new interior.
We will have full photo record from go to wo - will post a few when completed.
This is just to whet the appetite.
The reason for the resto? It's Julie's first car, only car, and the only car she ever wants to own - so it was necessary to have a makeover for it to last at least another 30 years (it's currently 44 yers old!)
Now all I need is to send Julie along for a similar makeover - but I think it's way beyond Mike's skills. (PS. She doesn't read this site:p )

              Gees Peter,
Thats beautiful. What other things have you got hidden away there in Upway?
KYJ's turn next? She'll be looking a bit shabby parked next to that shining example of Hitler's "car for the people".

Wolfsburgs finest. I wonder how many one owner VW's there are these days.....???

Another fine example of German engineering. I wonder if any of todays manufacturers will produce anything as iconic, popular or long lasting?

                Doubtful

It's bloody well near finished :p - and it looks absolutely fabulous.
Apparently (according to Julie) KYJ 911 is now the 'hack' and the beetle is the show car.

Note - Instruction from Julie to Mike - The steering wheel (cracked and broken horn rim) and indicator stalk (homemade repair) were not to be touched as they were her reminder of how the car used to be and also they add that most important ingredient that Tony C (I gather) is so passionate about - "Patina"

...............and yes, that is Mark Sanders former (red) 912 in the background. What a beaut little car, especially after the work that Mike has done on it recently - and the new owner is a prospective TYP901 member.

Are you allowed to bring it Saturday morning Peter. We'd all lover to see her in the flesh & Phil Hearn has a soft spot for Beetles.

                        Julie or the Beetle?

Unfortunately can't bring it (the Beetle) Saturday (presuming it's finished) as it will be under wraps at home, ready to be unveiled to the world at a small gathering on Sunday arvo - then it's off to the "Safeway" carpark to introduce it to the real world once again .............

Surely like every blockbuster movie there has to be a preview showing before the premiere?!?

                          Please?!?

Unfortunately Rich, it won't be finished and ready for pick-up until next Wednesday.
The good news is that Mikes mate, Rob was able to once again get the radio working - which hasn't been operational since the car was converted to 12v some years ago. The radio is an original 6v valve Astor Diamond Dot (with diamond).

I'm sure from viewing the following photos that you'll all agree that Mike Tankard has done a fabulous job. The interior done by Cel Passaminti ("pass the minties")...............
