    Phillip Island Historics 7/8/9 March

Just been going through the club calendar to see what is on this year.

I'd like to sneak down for at least one event this year. Are there any club plans for attendance at this event?

Can someone give me a run down on what goes on and what there is in the way of accommodation?

    Cheers, Cam

Definitely a goer for the 901 register. there is plenty of floorspace at Brett's (assuming he'll let you in... but he doesn't seem that fussy!!). or if you feel that you can't lower yourself to our standards you can go stay with mr upwey - he likes staying where the common folk aren't!!

Presume it will be similar to the 6hr - easy dinner consists of pizza/fish'n'chips at brett's.

The event itself is great. lots of displays of car clubs (more on the sunday than the saturday)... alex has some grand plans which I am sure he will chime in on...

so book your ticket! I can pick you up at the airport... assuming you don't mind heading down on the friday night...

      Cheers

Irrespective of the elitist connotations expressed by Mr Creative Accountant (loosely referred to as the Club Treasurer) with respect to my accomodation arrangements during this marvellous weekend of historic motor sport, you are most welcome to bunk in with me.
I'll reserve you a spot in the penguin rook next to the one I usually co-habit with one of our furry little friends. - so long as you don't mind re-girgitated fish for breakfast. May not taste the best , but the waiters are really smart, dressed in their cute little tuxedos.
At least you won't be awakened by snoring during the night (as you no doubt would be at Brett's), however, you may be awakened by a disoriented and lost Japanese tourist at about 3am - armed with a Minolta and flash of course.

Thanks for the reminder Rich, the weekend's fast approaching and I must get on the "bat phone" to reserve the penthouse rook at the top of the dune. :p

            Errr..... right

Just to clarify Peter are you camping?

Due to the wonderful scheduling of flights out of Darwin it is likely I will be on a red eye flight on the way down so I might need something vaguely comfy if possible You might be pleased to learn that I always travel with earplugs and an eyemask!!!!!!

Errr.............no, but don't tell the riff raff Cam.

Still to arrange my usual 5 star - it depends on availability as the owner of the palace is also a car nut (not TYP901) and may be inviting other guests - if not we're in!

...............do you prefer the east wing or the west?

                Cam,
head down without fail. It is as close to historic porn as you can get!
I have some plans for 901 guys, so hopefully I can get that signed off by the committee and we can have a cracking set up!
Brett's is the best. All night talk about crap and generally no wives or girlfriends.... generally = very funny conversations!

                  This is sounding good!

I'll seek permission/ forgiveness from the bride today.

The flight back north would be around 8.30pm which is hopefully do-able. How far from PI to Melbourne?

Alex, what are these plans of yours!!??

                  Who else is heading down?

John I had thought about PP at Easter but have wanted to check out the Historics for a while and don't think I can do both....

Be social and hang out with the fellas at Brett's... leave mr upwey to hang out with the penguins... who wants to sleep in comfort without snoring anyway!!

I'll can drop you back at the airport on Sunday arvo if you want. not that far out of my way. Probably 2-ish hours to the airport (tullamarine not avalon!)depending on traffic. leave the island around 5:30pm at the latest i would suggest.

If you're on the red-eye on thursday night you may not want to hang around til i head down on friday arvo...

                    Cheers

                      Thanks Rich

There are a couple of people in Melbourne I wouldn't mind catching up with so Friday arvo might be good! A lift back on Sunday would be fantastic if it's not too much trouble

                        Cam, and others,

the plan this year is to have a 901 area for all members and 901'ers to have as their 'area'!

I am working through this with the committee in the next week, but hopefully the plan is to have the Shannon's display as that, a display or car park, and ahve an area in the pit (grass area) that I set up on the Thursday with tents etc. The idea is to have as many of the 901 competing to be in this area, as well as an undercover are with tables and chairs (BYO chairs).

This should be great from the standpoint that we are all together, and that we have a real presence whereby the whole club is together and not between two different spots on the track. The viewing from the area that I am seeking to take a hold of has a great view of the quick section of turn 3, into turn 4 (Honda) and up thorugh Siberia and the short squirt up the back.

All those in favour say 'I'!

                          Cam,
Always a bed for a interstate guest.
Get to Melbourne and we'll pick you up. If you get in Thursday night you can crash at my place and head down the Island Friday.

                            So Alex, to clarify.
Those bringing a TYP901 car but not competing (usually about 10 cars) will park in our allocated area of the Shannon's display and then walk across the bridge to the area you set up for competing cars and all members (our PI Clubroom).
This in effect means that we won't have a club member permanently in the Shannons display area - unless someone (or a number on rotation) wish to be there to keep an eye on the cars and answer questions from the public etc.
At which location will our club banner be located?
Obviously Clyde (or someone of similar bent) will need to be early to the Shannons display area to ensure that the non-competing cars are parked in an orderly, artistic and precise formation. (not to resemble a used car yard)

All sounds good to me - as usual, well done Alex.

                            ...................AYE

                              The deed is done

I lob in at o'dark hundred on Friday morning and off again at 8.30 Sunday night. Not sure yet about Friday as there are a couple of people I'd like to say g'day to but not sure if they might be heading down as well!

Brett, I'll take you up on your offer, thank you!

Peter, thanks for your offer but looks like its not a certainty?

Now, what do I need to bring with me? Any bedding stuff? What else other than some warm clothes?

                              Bring it on!
