    MSD Ignitions

    Guys,

    Who's running one of these?

How much difference do they make compared to the ole' original CDI?

I'm running a Crane XR700 with optical switch instead of points. I can tell you for sure that it was the single most 'impressive' upgrade I've made to my car. It completely solved my hot and cold starting issues stopped my plugs from regularly fouling. I understand that the MSD is better again for low revs and idling as it fires the spark plug up to 6 times a cycle.

Any noticeable power increase or fuel usage improvements?

I don't know about a true increase in power, but the smoothness I did get certainly made the car feel snappier...

My car is a fuel guzzling pig whether it's running good or bad!

I run an MSD 6AL box, and MSD programmable timing computer. It is fed by the standard optical output from my SC distributor (advance locked out). I can't compare (in this car) to the standard CDI box - but I am comfortable that I have a very good and reliable ignition system. As far as comparison to points, I'd definitely expect an easier starting and smoother running car.
