    POssible new Technical Workshop meet

Following on from last years very successful Race preparation morning at Mark Johnstons North Melbourne workshop prior to the 6 Hr, I was talking with Dave Belford who is building up Marks new 911 ST race car.

This car is nearing completion and is really an awesome car with spectacular attention to detail.

We talked about the idea to assemble a group of Porsches early race cars "from R to RSR" and to hopefully get along some members cars representing R's, S's, RS's, RSR's ST's - some real, some reproductions.

The idea is to let members see how these cars had evolved through the early years and also to see whats involved in building up a replica of an R, RS or and ST.

There seems to be a lot of interest from many members in these cars and I think it would be a great way to spend a Saturday (or Sunday) morning followed by a BBQ lunch as we did last time.

This will be a fairly in depth and technical discussion about the finer details involved in building up these cars, sourcing (or building) the parts needed and understanding what to look for in a candidate for a donor car for your project. Guys who have "been there, done that" can share their experiences and (maybe) share some insight into costs etc.

Hands up who might be interested so we can consider a date to hold this session.

I have to check with Dave and Mark as to suitable dates but will check and then suggest some possible dates.

I think this will be a great topic to discuss plus you get to crawl over and around some very interesting cars. I was thinking about building a CD of all teh pics I have of 911R cars and bits. perhaps dave might do the same with his collection of ST pics and maybe Clyde has some great RS shots to include.

This could be a great resource disk for others considering an R, RS or ST project ?

For those of you not familiar with Mark Johnsons current project, here are a couple of pics taken today of his ST race car being built.

By the time we have the workshop visit, I expect it will be very close to being complete.

Its well worth coming along just to see the detail on this car and the execution of its preparation.

                        I'm in, pending date!

Rotating shift work certainly not conducive to regular weekend freedom

Phil, sounds like a great day - hopefully I can tag along. By the way, the featured project car looks stunning, as does your R. To an utterly lay persons eye, the quality of these beautiful old cars is extraordinary. I love the blend of engineering and art.

car is looking great boys! The cage is OTT but awesome! Also am laughing at the seat bases in the back seats, like anyone other than a 2ft Brazilian pigmy is going to fit! Can't wait to see it in the flesh!
