A really detailed article, Tony. Tops.

While those of us who need reading glasses have got them handy, have a look at UK Motor Sport, Vol 83 Number 6 (June, I think) which features Ferrari's 60th anniversary. Specifically look for the interview with Vic Elford, whose career involved Porsche a lot. He talks about rallying the early 911s and racing the 906, 908s and 917s and other Porsches and other makes. It is a very interesting interview.

And there are some terrific photos of the Ferrari 512S!

I have actually been emailing back and forth with Chris Nielson recently, the owner of the blue St clone. He also has an RSR clone for sale (pics below) which I was considering buying. He's a mate of the guy I bought the Gulf Blue 72 E Targa from up in Seattle.

High US$30's will get you this car which has lots of goodies on it. I think Shane Rudd mentioned it recently in another thread and gave a link.

here is the link to all the pics of the car:

Amazing what a different message the colour/gloss level sends out. If that was Gulf Blue it would look a whole lot more approachable than its present tough industrial stance. It would certainly not go un-noticed down at the local shops. How good would it look in silver! $30K seems good value for a car that I am sure is amazingly specced. $15K paint job and what would you have on your hands!!? As the $A approached parity with $US I reckon that car must be of interest to one of the hoons on this Board.

                so let's say US$40K... that's somthing like A$55K delivered?

...leave the paint alone - looks nice and mean. no ricers would bother you! just drive the pants off it!!!

now... wonder whether claire's thinking of getting me a wedding present...?!?

                    Shane,

The shiny blue one, or the stealth black one?

I did the sums and it would land for around A$50K freight and GST paid. Sure its got a 3.2 motor but its on webers (40mm) and it has all teh suspension etc sorted. i would paint it silver and put on some martini stripes. You could not build the same car for the money these days.

                        John,

The shiny blue one is impressive for sure, but there is something about the industrial (as Tony C mentioned) grey 3.2 with all the bits that really floats my boat. It just looks like alot of fun!

Interesting to see you 'narrow body' guys, Tony Shane Cam Rich lusting after the 'fat' ones.
                          What's holding you back?
