import duties and taxes on parts from USA

I am looking at buying some parts which are more than $1000 from the US.
What will I be up for in term of Australian taxes? Does labelling racing or antique get you cheaper level of tax?

    Thx.

Better to make an arrangement with your supplie re the total he invoices you for, or send as separate shipments to remain under the $1K limit. Otehrwise its probably 5% duty and 10% on the total of the FOB cost plus the shipping charges.

Parts will usually only be regarded as duty free if they came along with a car which is over a certian age limit and hte parts are legitimately parts of the car being imported. GST will always still apply on any shipment over $1000.

Some car parts are 10% duty - wheels for example, and as Phil mentions, plus 10% GST on top.

        Urgent Question

I am looking at getting something from Andial and they only use DHL.
My question is will DHL clear custom (do all the paper works) for me or do I need to get a custom broker? I know with USPS I don't have to do a thing just agree and pay the custom and gst charges.

But I've been told depending on the method of shipment you may need to do the clearing yourself.

        Hung.
