    Rennsport III - Daytona

    Hey guys,

I have just returned from a trip to the USA where I attended Sema, and more importantly Rennsport Reunion III at Daytona Speedway. No doubt many of you have seen pics of this event on other forums, but let me tell you as an Australian Porsche enthusiast it is the most incredible event I have attended. Every which way were amazing and significant Porsches, and it was possible to get 'up close and personal' with each and every one of them. Do you want to sit in a genuine lemans 917? Ask the owner nicely and it's no problem!

There was so much for the early 911 enthusiast too - from genuine 911R's, 73 RS's and RSR's, more than a dozen genuine 74 RSR's, and more.

For the race car fans there were more than 10 917's, the prototype flat 16 powered spider, 908's, 956 and 962's, 935's everywhere!

The best part is seeing these cars run up close. Seeing guys starting up a 74 RSR and warming it up - incredible sound. The wail of a group of 30 or 40 early 911's on track with megaphones was amazing.

So in short - when this event rolls around again in 2010 I suggest making the effort to attend - I know I will be again!

I've attached just a few of the 280 odd shots I took..

      Craig,

      Its in my diary already.

I had hoped to get to this one... but with a concours to run and a departure to Lorne for GOR rally a few days later it was just too much.

I've been following the coverage of the event very closely however.

Craig ,tx for sharing these .Envy describes me feelings .
Justin -- we made the wrong call .Clontarf was lovely but Daytona certainly trumped it.
Did Zwart shoot another weird photobook there ?

            John,

I think you're right... we won't make the same error again....

It will be Daytona 1, Clontarf 2.

                Outrageous pornography!!!

Hmmm 2010 eh? We've really got no excuse but to start putting some spare coin away so we've got no excuses...

Great photos. Out of interest, did you happen to get some photos of the Fox wheels on an early car whilst you were over there?

                Cheers

THe only problem with Rennsport dates are that there isnt much esle to coincide with it to combine on teh trip, unless you go home via Europe and visit Stuttgart and the new museums there.

You can call into California to visit a lot of the early S and R Gruppe guys but there are no scheduled events to join in with. As Craig says, there is the SEMA show in Las Vegas which is worth visiting but its really a trade show.

I am very interested to get some club trips organised and we should continue discussions on this forum about possibilities.
