    Hotrod porn

Just for your enjoyment. I have had this car for ten years. US 911T 1972, original engine lost so running a 2L block, converted to RHD (not all that well), bought for $35K - all added up to licence to build as a hot rod just to suit me. This car is now 95% complete - will be on the road for the first time in my ownership soon (which in relative terms means next 12 months).

First two pictures shows what it looked like when I bought it.

The brief on this car was keep it road compatible but make it as minimal and light as possible.

Rewired with light weight loom, hollow torsion bars, alloy rear arms and front cross member, minimal internal and external trim (glove box, stereo, internal lights delete), RS rubber mats instead of any carpet, will have perspex rear glass, custom lightweight seats, minimal stone guard under car.

Mahele gas burner wheels - because a bit different, I like them and they are the lightest production wheels of the time.

Stuck with original steel panels except for bumpers which were missing anyway, stuck with original glass except for rear screen.

Not sure if I will need a teeth guard and ear plugs - figured I can always add sound proof and trim as needed.

Any suggestions and how to make more beautiful and lighter :-)

Your car looks sensational - nice to see some Mahle wheels are you don't see them that often.

Love the concept, I love a louvred engine lid myself but no weight saving there.

        It’s going great so far.
How light do you want it?
The easiest way is to add a torquey engine.
I love light cars with an LSD but unless you’re trying to squeeze a few 10th’s off a lap time then have a bit of comfort.
Ear plugs are ok. I drive with them a lot on highway driving and then they come out for the hills.

Love the colour. Is it Gemini?
What engine specs are you running on your 2.0 l case ?

Looks great Robin - love the minimal dash.

+ 1 on the engine build - love to hear what's gone into it and what sort of hp you're expecting.

I love it Robin and love that you are building what YOU want (as opposed to what someone in 1972 wanted - not knocking anyone because I am certainly a follower also)! Great colour combo and cool to see a car with gas burners!

Have you considered brake calipers for a little weight saving? Brembo or S...

I almost went with a fibreglass engine cover with the R flip hinges (and glass bonnet also) but stuck with the original steel - An alloy lid would be nice.... how much is not much?

                        T answer all questions above.

Colour is Gemini metallic blue - factory original colour luckily - I love the colour, sets the chrome off.

The engine is a bit of an unknown. was running when I got it. I had it fully rebuilt keeping it "stock" but with oil way machining works done and uprated oil pump. Already had auto-tensioners on it. Turns out it had a set of 2.7L cylinders/pitons already fitted and these were honed and reused. So a 2L stroke with 2.7 Cylinders which I have learnt since (build was years ago) could result in a low compression build? Reused most other engine parts (cam, rods etc.) so if these had been changed from stock I would not know exactly what I have. If I new what I know now I would have bought a 2.4L engine to rebuild on rather than use the engine the car came with. Anyway I will see how it all drives (on a 915 box) and maybe down the track rebuild a 2.4L on carbs or even mech injection? Or maybe a 2.7L engine built up to a performance level. I love the feel on a 3.2L engine but they look good in a 3.2 not in a pre-73 911 (in my opinion).

Had not considered lighter break callipers - I will add to the list.

This is a road car - the plan was to make it as light and minimal as possible - I like the minimal look and I figured I would get back to the roots of the roots of the 911 by going as light as I can.

For this car (being the bastard it is) I would just put on a repro alloy lid - or more likely if I was not sticking to original panels would go fibre glass.

Also I noticed this door setup on a 73RS the other day (for sale on eBay right now). I think I will do this - just removing the door trim tops and adding some vinyl to cover top of door.
