    Spark Plug - too rich?

This is one of my "new plugs" after 800km.

Is anyone an expert on looking at a plug and knowing if the engine is running too rich, too lean, too hot, too cold etc.?

Any views on mine - should it look like this after 800km?

    cheers

That is a bit on the lean side

You need to pull all six though to get a real idea of what's going on in there.

    Carbs or MFI ?

What spec of plug is that Mark? Odd electrodes. Very hard to tell from photos, but no oil ring on the last threads, colour of the electrodes looks good (not too white), no sooty deposit on the rim, but that is hard to tell these days due to the unleaded fuel. Seems to be some build up on the bent/upper electrode. Can't really see in that image but maybe a heat range issue.

        Thanks Bruce & Merv.

It's a MFI and the plugs are NGK Iridium BR8EIX. Are these OK?

I will pull the other 5.

Mark try some close ups of the electrodes with a good camera. This shows some of the variations http://bustekhub.com/index.php/2016/...ark-plugs-101/

The inner electrode on yours seems fine but the outer one maybe not for a relatively new plug.

These guys had similar issues http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...ghlight=BR8EIX

The one you have maybe a little 'cold'. I tend to use the older style, larger electrode plugs that the cars came with.

I am using the BR7EIX , no problem.

Slightly hotter plug but runs well with my pump settings.

Was on the BP7ES prior but felt it fluffing a bit in slow traffic .

Thanks Bruce & Merv for the chart of different plugs.

NGK Iridium BR8EIX is their High performance plug.

I pulled another out and took a photo with iPhone X on x2 - best I can do.

It actually looks cleaner than the first one.

The side electrode is clean, the centre electrode clean as is the surrounding white insulator.

Looking at the bustekhub pictures of different plugs - I reckon mine looks like the plug on the second line, second from the right which says "OK" - thoughts??

They look fine in that photo. Inner ceramic insulator is good with no blisters to heat marks and the outer electrode looks clean also. Good to go!
