    Blaupunkt Radio

Any thoughts on the best place to get an old Blaupunkt radio serviced in Melbourne?

    Thanks

The Blaupunkt customer info email contact on their Australian web site may provide some assistance. I'll ask Viron, he should know something.

I asked a pal of mine, Viron, who has spent a great deal of time looking into OE radios for old 911's and unfortunately he said he knew of nobody locally [Melb] who could work on old Blaupunkt radios. Have you had any luck elsewhere?

        Paul,

No luck with service people....but, I pulled out my precision screwdrivers, had a glass of beer to steady the hands and went into surgery...success.

My tuning knob (no jokes Peter) was slipping. Ie. no station change when I turned the knob. Turns out that there is a clutch mechanism inside which allows manual tuning with the dial but allows a rapid move across the tuning range without the knob spinning round too much when you push one of the preset buttons. And those clever Germans have put an adjustment screw on the internal clutch. Hard to get to, but impressive engineering. Minor tightening of screw..all fixed.

Took my time, methodical approach..all working well now.

I should charge myself $1000 for that effort.

Thanks for checking with Viron. Haven't seen him for years. Tell him Andrew V says g'day.

        Thanks

According to The Nerd (daughter's boyfriend and Harry Potter look-alike!), the real weakness with old Blaupunkt and Becker radios is in the design of the on-off switch, which he re-built in my Blaupunkt Frankfurt - at least he's good for something . Don't ask me what he did but it did involve tiny tools, a magnifier and lots of cursing.

BTW, a company called "Soundlabs" located in Balwyn area who specialise in Becker, will do work on some Blaupunkt as they are similar to Becker radios.

Andrew, Viron says he will be along on Sunday to the 356 Parade, so you can catch him there.

And is there no end to your talents ? Hand stitching leather steering wheel covers, vintage radio repairs; Himalayan trekking guide.

You should hang out a shingle.
