    Original seat inlays

I'm planning on getting the tan interior of my 911 T updated, and got some great advice today at the 356 day from Clyde and Hugh.

Ideally I'd like to replace the tan cordorouy with the same, but that is no longer available. Assuming I can't find this I'm keen to get cloth inserts and Hugh has kindly put me onto a source in the US that has "OEM" like 'black, tan and white' houndstooth.

Attached is the picture (middle cloth I assume) and an alternative in biege. Just on the off chance - does anyone have original black, tan and white houndstooth seat inserts? Does the reproduction look authentic?

I have the original tan seats out of my car, last time i lifted the plastic they looked in new condition so maybe had been re-done at some stage. Not cord though just vinyl.

Happy to send pics when I get to Adelaide at Xmas if you are interested.

    Cheers

...sounds like an expensive day to me...

      Marcus,
The pepita in the centre of the main pic looks correct but the small pic does not seem to match at all.
Have you tried Tony at Autobahn Interiors in San Diego for the corduroy ?
He was most helpful when I was doing my seats.

Thanks Cam for the offer - I'll keep trying the cloth option at this stage.

Dennis - thanks for the suggestion - I've emailed Autbahn Interiors - will let you know if I have any luck.

Interesting word 'pepita' - on wikipedia it means an edible seed from a squash or pumpkin - I guess it looks a bit like that.

Yes - probably expensive - better hope my wife who has a black belt doesn't find out the total cost!

          Marcus,

"pepita" is the official german description of the material - maybe its german for "houndstooth" as my german seat supplier always refers to them thus.

There have been some seriously long threads on teh early S board about this so do a search and read them.

There are various sourcs for so-called "original" houndstooth including SitzKlinik in Germany (http://www.sitzklinik.com/). This where Porsche Classic buys its materials from when it does a factory resto , however some people in Europe had some perfect repro material loomed which is what our manufacturer uses in BF Torino seats. I know they dont sell it by meterage as its for OEM use only.

Here are some pics detailed in order:

1: repro "original" material - top left
          2. Tony - Autobahn fabric #1 - top right
          3. Tony - Autobahn fabric #2 - bottom left
          4. Sitzklinik materials - bottom right

          you can see obvious differences

Andy, the correct garment for that material is a poncho.

Just to throw a bit of confusion in here...
When I did my seat renovations two years ago I sent for samples from Sitzklinik and the material was the same pattern as Phil has shown at the top pic but it felt somewhat thinner - more nylonish - than a subsequent original and correct b/w houndstooth bought from an S registry member in Canada.
This felt more substantial than the Sitzklinik material and should wear much better. P/n is 000 551 531 00 730 for the anoraks amongst us !!
The bottom two don't look right to me.
Andrew - racers don't have pepita anoraks - they go for the untanned Tiger skin undies instead !!

                      Cheers,
                      Dennis.

I have emailed Sitzklinik. Used the very cool 'babelfish' web site language converter - Uber Cool.
