Combo VW and Porsche "Show & Shine" Sun 22 Feb

    Hi Melbourne members,

I have just been advised there will be a gathering outside Auto Coupe's Eltham workshops on Sunday 22 Feb starting approx 0930 - 2.00pm.

Its another fundraiser to help the Bushfire Appeal and Mark, who works with Phil, and is a VW fanatic (as well as POrsche) says there will be some awards like Peoples Choice etc.

Not sure about entry fees etc and will find out more and update this thread.

Update: cost is $5.00 per car and a voting slip for Peoples Choice is $2.00

Mark says he is expecting anywhere between 20 - 60 cars to turn up so come on down for a look Sunday morning and a general Porsche chat.

I hope to have the 911R and the 73T there. My 68S will be down the road at Kanes workshop if anyone wants to view this which is for sale after the engine goes back in.

Pls indicate if you plan to attend and bring your car along.

worse... i am taking the mountain bike. it rides like a tractor (but suspect i need working brakes and gears for the ride... which the fixie doesn't have!)

oh and no freeloaders allowed... you want to come along, you have to pedal the 40kms yourself!!

Great day, lots of cars incl a good turnout of 356 and 911's.

I believe they raised over $1100.00 on the day ($800 at gate and $300 from BBQ).

Big thanks to Mark and the VW boys for organising the day at short notice and to Phil, Denise and Jodie from Auto Coupe for donating all the BBQ food and drinks and manning the catering tent all day.

Here are a few pics including some "Rat rods" and a nice Outlaw 356. Plenty of Kombis there too. These "Melburg LUFT" guys are certainly well organised and wiht a great club spirit.

                            Ryan,

they are actually evaporative coolers which have straw inside them and a water reservoir. Apparently they work OK. I actually saw one in use recently ay the HotRod show down at Queenscliff on a "Rod drive down on a very hot day. You just clip them onto yr window, wind it up and it has a short strut that locks into the base of the frame.

Definitely a very "cool" option to have.

I'm glad someone else asked as I've seen anything like it. Not much use in humid tropical areas though which probably explains why I haven't seen one.
