    Driving Shoes

    Hi Guys

After Thredbo, and with Philip Island Regularity approaching... does anyone have any suggestions for a pair of good solid driving shoes?

Don't need over-priced labels... just reasonably priced good quality...

    any suggestions would be great.

    cheers

    Richard,

i like the Piloti Prototipo- great to drive in and nice to walk in- not sure if there is a CAMS requirement re footwear for regularity? bare feet wont cut it !

On the off chance that this becomes a habit for you I'd get something thats FIA compliant.

        Agree with Cam.

Getting a decent pair of driving shoes - I have some Sparco's that set me back about $175, are well worth the investment.

The difference in good shoes when driving is amazing. Almost as good as a great pair of gloves and a decent seat!!!

There are heaps of places that sell them, but don't get a no-name brand off Ebay, they will perish easily.

Alternatively if you don't require FIA approved footwear, and want to save some coin, the Puma Drift Cat 2 at $90 may be just what you are after.

On the other foot, if you really want to splash out, you could try a pair of these handmade Monopostoline shoes at the bargain price of 680 Euros!

Rich, I bought a pair of Piloti's in the US but am not happy wiht teh lastthey are made on - too narrow for typical aussie feet. I also enquired about distribution but decided against it due to narrow lasts (and I have a wealth of experience in footwear from my previous sporting goods wholesaling days).

thanks guys. don't think i need to invest in FIA approved at this stage... will have a look at the pumas for the regularity and then see where my motorsport career goes from there.

              cheers

Rich, you mnetion you want a "solid driving shoe". I find that you realy need a soft, close fitting shoe thats almost like a slipper that gives you really good pedal feel. If the shoe is too wide or with a hard sole,, it can tend to catch on edges of pedals if you need to do some fancy footwork and fast changes, heel/toeing etc.

would go for the Pumas if I were you Rich... I buy them whenever I see them on sale ... they'll go out of fashion eventually!

That is if you are just needing them for driving and the odd regularity... if you wish to do more you'd be better off stumping up for a pair of the fireproof ones.

phil, sorry, when i said solid i meant more from a quality/reliability point of view... not actual construction!
