Winton Historics 27 & 28 May 2006

This year will mark the 30th anniversary of Historic Winton. This event is organised by the Austin 7 Club and they have always done a fabulous job.

If you enjoyed Philip Island or are lamenting that you missed last weekend's fabulous event then be sure not to miss this one at Winton!

This is an event to make a club weekend away...

I am happy to organise a block of accomodation preferably in Benalla or if we can't get enough rooms together then in Wangaratta. We'll need to move very quickly though as from previous experience accomodation gets booked out very early for this event as a lot of NSW competitors and spectators come along.

If you are interested in attending Historic Winton, please post here. I am going to speak with the Austin 7 club about a proper display similiar to what we did at the Island; although Winton has some space limitations for parking etc. As this is the 30th anniversary I am almost certain the Austin 7 club will be looking to organise something a little "special"...

NSW members, ACT members....I am giving you plenty of lead time here! Come along and join in the fun of a wonderful historic meeting at Winton !

Julie and I will be going - definitely on the Sunday, maybe on the Saturday.
Will be staying at Euroa or Howqua so will not need booking.

Also, Julie and I wish to thank you, Carl, Hugh and the committee for organising such a wonderful weekend at Phillip Island and if that can be emulated at Winton then we will once again be the best presented Club.

UPDATE -

I have spoken with the organisers tonight and have great news about Historic Winton. This year there will be more space for car clubs and a special few will be able to have designated parking for their displays...(that's us!). This will mean that late arrivals for these few clubs will still be able to park in their designated area, instead of having to all arrive together to ensure they stay as a group.

Also, the Shire of Benalla is getting behind a car rally and hopefully a race car display in Benalla on the Friday...imagine a conga line of historic race cars driving down the old highway from Winton into Benalla under police escort! Looks like this year's feature may be great bike specials (last year was Great Aussie Specials)...Lots more news to come!

I am booking accommodation for us this week - I know Hugh wants to stay the weekend too. I have in mind a nice motel in Benalla which unfortunately is no secret to the racing boys, so I need to move quickly...please email me asap if you would like me to book a room/s for you so we can all stay together. There is the option to take Friday off and be part of the car rally as well, so please indicate your interest for that so I know whether to book Friday night also.

As soon as I get news from the organisers about any updates I'll post here.

Accomodation update

There is no accommodation available in Benalla for the Winton Historics weekend, apart from the odd room here and there.

Most of the motels throughout the region are booking on 2 night minimums for this weekend.

I have located one motel in Wangaratta which at this stage still has a wide choice of rooms, but they are also only accepting 2 night minimum bookings.

They have several 1 x queen rooms (non smoking) at $83 per night
3 rooms 1 x queen and 1 x single beds (N.S.) at $93.00 per night
1 room 3 x single (N.S.) at $93 per night
2 rooms 2 bedroom 1 x Queen and 2 x singles (N.S.) at $125.00 per night
2 x single beds at $83.00 per night (I mean 1 room with 2 singles - sorry! ops: )

Please remember this is a 2 night minimum booking. Given that there are plans afoot for Friday activities in Benalla for Historic Winton, we are staying Friday and Saturday nights.

I am booking rooms tomorrow...please email me directly lisa@spyderautomobiles.com.au if you want me to book for you. Please state which room you require.

I cannot stress strongly enough that if you leave this there will be no accommodation available - most motels are booked out from one year to the next. I was lucky to find this one. Once the Austin 7 club start circulating the club invites which is happening very soon, the accommodation will all be gone...

Accomodation update

I have booked for the following:

Jacobson family (that's us :lol: )
Hugh Hodges
Purcell family
Clyde Boyer - Clyde is staying Friday night only due to work commitments.

If anyone else wants to do the same, the motel does not have a problem with single night bookings for Friday only. If you want Saturday night, then the 2 night minimum applies.

I will check room availability again and post an update in the next day or so.

Hoping to have a family bbq at the motel on Saturday night - Jacobson apartment will be open house for dinner and a few quiet drinks... :wink:

I also have 4 tickets spare. If anyone wants these who is not taking a P-car up for the club display (assuming there is one - you'll get tickets as part of the display entry I think) please contact me directly.

Two tickets gone, two still on offer

Hi back Nick,

I'm fine (now) thankyou...shame we can't go to Winton this year - too much on down here at the moment. I'll miss having the chance to catch up with you if you make it .

I have 2 free weekend tickets left if anyone would like them. We received 4 as a race sponsor (Spyder's is sponsoring a race this year). 2 have been taken by a member - who would like the others?
