Advice needed - Engine Mounts and Engine Sound Pad

    All,

I'm replacing my current engine with a 1980 SC engine. I thought at the time I will replace the sound pad and engine mounts..

I have these prices and options...

1/ Engine Sound Pad $88 inc GST . Questions - I assume this is a good price for a standard engine pad , Are there any other options I should consider . I would like it to look stock?

    2/ Engine mounts

Std mount - $110 inc GST each,
    Cabriolet(sport) mount - $115.50 inc GST
    Wevo S/S mount - $143.70 inc GST

What is the best engine mount ? and does it really matter as the car will always be set up for road driving as its main function.

    thanks in advance

    Shane

    cheers

    Shane

For road only use... standard. I've got Wevo and love them, but they will allow a little more noise to resonate.

            Andrew,
            Thanks for the link

That is the local price and I'm sure they are OEM..... happy to support a board member in this instance, by the time you add shipping etc... any by the looks of things the sound pad is well priced compared to bringing one from OS.

            cheers

Sound pad is not what it used to be Shane very lightweight foam nothing like the heavy backed material they used to use and think they are 964 parts so need a little trimming from memory

                Cheers Clyde,

Clyde I'm assuming it will be suffice for my little T though. Do you know if they are making original type pads anywhere?

I had to use the new style on my Targa resto no choice at that stage and I am unaware of anyone producing a replica.

                  Your 3.2 T should be a screamer!!!

                    Shane,

                    Do you have a 901 gearbox or a 915?

If its the former - you should limit the fast getaways, as I'm sure over time the 3.0 litre engine's torque will take its toll on 1st gear.

                      Hi Shane,
I replaced my engine bay sound pad last year and wanted a bit of extra sound and vibration deadening as I've got two young kids who occasionally travel in the back.
I laid down Dynamat under the rear parcel shelf, rear seats and on the floor.
It's more commonly used by the "doof doof" boy racers with 10 billion watt stereos but it works really well, was easy to install (I had the seats and carpet out at the time) and I'm happy with the result.
                      Cheers Tom

                          Thanks Tom, sounds great..

I have actually found the sound and vibrations put them to sleep..... its that or the carbon monoxide that leaks into the cabin

I had wet smelly horse hair under my carpet - I pulled everything out, treated the metal (and rust) with POR15 to permanently rust proof it - then applied the dynamat and refitted the carpet using a foam underlay. Probably added a few kg's - but then again so does pizza.

Re fumes: it also worked well to cover all the holes, it looked like someone had parked it at a rifle range.!?!?

Stupid me 1968 car, I was thinking 73 not sure why that explains everything from 70 on I think the rear section has this very thick and heavy duty material all over the rear section parcel shelf etc I am sure its heat and sound proofing and it weighs a tone.

They also changed the floor to a different coating to the horse hair its heated into place and sets like rock.
