    OEL gauge

The sump oil level gauges in both my cars intermittently work then don't work. Is this a common problem? Anyone got any advice?

Yes Tony, the oil sender units themselves (located in the oil tanks) can become faulty. I believe replacement units are available from Porsche. Fitting them can be a pain because you need to remove the oil tank. Its a good opportunity to give your oil tank a really good clean out.

      hi tony

the connection to the sensor on the engine can often come loose/break contact etc. causing the gauge to show full. i'd check that as a start - maybe crimp on a new connector.

from memory its at the very rear of the engine - just to the right of the fan.

          Tony,

there are also the wire connectors to the sender unit located under the right rear guard which could be the problem.

Ryan, i think that wire you are referring to is for the oil pressure sensor ??
