    Stutter and popping

Team, - need some advice / clues,

On idle my car seems to be running quite rough with the following symptoms.

    Popping intermittently
When you start to accelerate there is a hesitation and stutter.
    Popping off throttle
    generally running rough
Will rev out once you get past the stutter - around 3000rpm.

    Any clues?

    Thanks in advance

Thanks Phil and Clyde for the replies,

Yes I had a fuel pump issue which my mechanic thought was the points and changed them on the Marelli...

So yes after the recent fuel pump change the points have been changed,.

Now my issue is I have an original Marelli on the 2.2T, so if it is this it, what are the options and the approximate cost?

I recall reading about a change of Dizzy to a Bosch which is modified for the 2.2T with Zenith Carbs (shortening of the shaft from memory)...

Has anyone had this change and can comment?

This is of course assuming that this is the issue... any other thoughts,

        cheers

Did you check if the rotor button was cracked ?

Sorry, just noticed a reference to the fact your running Zenith carbs.

What prompted the question was that I had very similar symptoms and it ended up being that my Webers were out of sync and the idle jets were a little dirty.

                Good luck

I have similar problems with mine running Webers.

I've been advised that if your timing / ignition system is as it should be its likely your carbies. I just haven't yet had the chance to have a good fiddle to work it all out.....

I'll tell you how I go if you tell me how you go!

                    Shane,

Check your idle jets...if it's revving out OK over 3000rpm then this is where you should start...also check your fuel filter.

Good weekend project for you...

                    Cheers,

                      Hi Lisa

Tuning and balancing my carbs was the last job John did on my car. After giving me heaps for my efforts to rectify the problems he made me promise not to do more than clean the idle jets. The thing has run like a dream ever since...

                      Regards

                        Exactly Paul  !

That's why I've suggested that Shane check these and only these...and the rotten fuel filter! I suspect that Shane may have some dirt in those jets for it can get past one or more filters if it is very fine. As Shane's car is running cleanly over 3000rpm, the idle jets are where I would start....and then stop. Let's see how it comes up if Shane pulls those jets out and cleans them.

                        Cheers,

                        Lisa

                          Update,

Cleaned the jets on Sunday and it started to run a little better at idle, I haven't had a chance to give the car a run as yet at which point I'll give an update.

It does though still come off a quick rev to below 1000 rpm idle (hunts around 200rpm to 500rpm) and then takes its time to find the idle speed, which makes me think it may be dizzy related.

However as mentioned it idled a little better with a clean onced warm, could be a combination of the two though.

One thing I must say is, the sound of the engine revving without the air filter system on is something to behold, it is seriously intoxicating.....
