    NOT Typ901 / Early S

    Folks:

Have picked up a 'short hood' 74S which I planned to turn in to rally car but may be too good for that. Only really familiar with the 'long hood' network - any recommendations on where to go for 'short hood' advice?

Have about 1.5 cars and not sure what is original/not.

    Any assistance appreciated

Pelican forum has plenty of good shorthood freaks on there, Mitchell... or our very own forum has many knowledgeable on the "dark side", myself included. What do you need to know?

        Mitchell,

I would be more than happy to share the receipts for converting my 911SC into a rally car. It's not a difficult process but can be very expensive depending on how far you want to go.

Buying something already built (e.g. attached link…..no association) will save you lots of time/money & if your 74S is original it may be a shame to convert it ?

I would suggest you speak to Shaun Cairns at Cairns Porsche in Hallam. In my opinion they are the best Porsche rally mechanics in the country & attend most events to support their cars. I've been using them for tarmac rally events since 2009 & finished every event…..considering the punishment on the car it's testament to their professionalism & support.

Feel free to PM if you like….

        Cheers

Try impactbumpers.com - it's a British site, and pretty good on info. There are plenty of anoraks on the site who are always willing to help.

I'm also happy to help with '74 questions too.

Thanks guys, will see how I go and try to limit the questions to things I can't find an answer for elsewhere.

I have 2 sets of front calipers

pretty sure the alloys are 69-72S

can anyone tell me if the others are '74S'?

They look like early style vented rotor brakes with the brake line fitted to the side like that. The Later brakes have the brake line fitting on the back edge between the mounting bolts.
                Whats the bolt hole spacing?

They sure look like 69-72 S alloy's to me...... They should have a small stap with a date code.

Yes top alloy s, I am talking about the bottom ones.
                      Neither are 74s.

                        Agree with Sean.
The S model had become the mid spec model by '74.
Struts are more easily identified by the stamping up near the top. Three types available Boge Koni and Bilstein. Those early S calipers need the 3 1/2" spacing strut.
