    New member introduction

My name is Jeff Edwards and I have recently acquired a factory RHD 1971 911T as a basis for a full restoration challenge. I did a rebuild on a ’84 SC cabriolet about 4 years ago, so am somewhat familiar with Porsche architecture. Since the Porsche, I have restored a ’67 Mercedes 250SL Pagoda, which is a joy to own, and a ’69 Aston Martin DBS which I disliked and ended up selling.

Next week 71T goes to K-Tech when Brendan and I will decide the attack plan for the restoration and determine how much I can do and how much to leave to the professionals. 71T needs to be properly back-dated with new panels as it was “converted” into a RS look-a-like club car in the early 90’s. It appears to have blown its motor at some stage shortly after and went into dry storage while a replacement motor was found. That never eventuated and I understand that the car has sat engineless in storage for over a decade. Perhaps this car is known to some of the Victoria members and someone might be able to shed some light on its history for me. It will need a bare metal respray and a full mechanical and interior rebuild. Should keep me off the streets for a while.

John at Zag Automotive has already helped me locate a closely matching 2.2 T Webber motor and transmission, which are now being rebuild by Carlo at Cavaco Motors in Sydney.

I will have plenty of questions and calls for help as I work through the restoration, but hope to be able to contribute a little as well.

    Thanks you for having me.

            Welcome to the club Jeff.
Beautiful 250SL, looks very original. Will you be restoring the 71T back to "original"? - based on the look of the 250SL, I guess so.
The definitive resto thread is Fishcop's epic project which you can now view with the photos (you may have followed it prior to joining but photos weren't available)

71T on the way to WA

71T is now on its way to WA.
Its looking like a more daunting challenge by the day but one that I'm really excited about.

A few members encouraged me to put up some more images, so my '69 250SL showing the refurb of the engine bay, starting to reinstall all the rechromed parts and the finished hardtop in position, after a back to bare metal rebuild.
                          Hope you like.
