    Broken Clutch Pedal

    Hi All,

I was driving the car into work this morning (just because I felt like it) and half way to work there was a loud bang as I was changing gears and my foot went straight to the floor, no more clutch.

I turned around and drove to my mechanic's place and he discovered that the clutch pedal had broken.

Has anyone ever experienced this before?

Pic attached if anyone can make any sense of it.

    Cheers,

    Harry.

I've broken a clutch cable but not the pedal. Did a weld let go ?

Had mine fail. Apparently there is a metal pin that holds together the two parts of the clutch pedal which sheared. Required removal of the pedal box to fix.

In this instance it wasn't the pin but the pedal itself that failed. It can be welded to fix it apparently.

        Cheers,

        Harry.

I have to say it made one hell of BANG when it went, My mechanic, Chris, said he has never seen it happen before.

              Hi All,

The clutch pedal is now fixed.

Yes Phil, it was a broken well, the "collar" snapped off of the pedal upright.

              Cheers,

              Harry.

Why Harry? Lubrication, worn bushes, cable stuck? Would be good to know.

Strangely Merv, the car was given a new clutch cable and bushes etc in September last year.

                  Cheers,

                  Harry.

Is it a converted car where someone has done a dodgy mod to the pedal?

In my time as a mechanic I've certainly seen cutch and brake pedals fail at weld points but generally with cheap cars (crap like Lada and early Hyundai come to mind) and where poor lube, adjustment etc were also factors.
