    10 days for a windscreen…..

I’ve just been informed that to get an original windscreen it’s a 10 day wait as they’re ex-Germany!!!!!!

Now if I’d been looking for some obscure part still stocked by Porsche I could understand but these fit most Porsche’s into the mid 80’s – they’re a bloody consumable.

Sorry had to rant – wondering of this is another initiative by Porsche to push enthusiasts into high margin newer cars. It’s just not Tuesday night without a good conspiracy theory.

Paul, why not settle for a local windscreen for around $190.00.

have you also asked the price from Porsche ?? close to $1000 I bet.

I know they are the 'correct" clear screen with no top-tint but they break and chip the same as other glass.

    Just a thought.

      Hey Phil

      Good thought too.

I'm using a guy who I was referred to by the Porsche Centre hence his possible reluctance to suggest the other options. I'll bring it up with him tomorrow – don’t care about the tinted band across the top and as far as cost goes it’s an insurance issue. Just can’t get over the fact that they wouldn’t maintain stock of such a basic item.

They probably dont keep stock because you can get them easily and cheaply from Windscreens Obrien (etc) for aorund the $200 mark, whereas the ones they stock are german and you can imagine the costs in shipping and handling a large piece of glass all the way ex germany.

Any of the glass replacment mobs up there whould be able to quote. probably have to come from Syd or brisbane to Darwin though.

          Guys
when i bought my car 3 years ago it needed a new screen.
obriens glass here in newcastle supplied a new screen, no tint band in about 4 days from memory. came from moran glass in brisbane and about $400 fitted.

Spoke to the windscreen guy earlier today who is coming around on Friday to fit a generic screen. Even he couldn't believe he couldn't get a genuine one. Glass is glass not that fussed, though if I didn't have to wait for it I would have prefered a genuine.

I think you would find the local glass to be a little softer than the Factory screen. Local screens chip & pit more easily but at around $200 each, you can afford to replace them more often.

New glass installed yesterday. You're right about the local glass pitting easily - the last screen was around 8 years old and pretty sandblasted with very limited driving.
