    Front Oil Coolers

    Technical Gurus

I'm looking at mounting a mid 70's trombone cooler, hardlines & thermostat into the '71 T with the twin battery boxes.

Anyone got any ideas as to if it will fit? My main concern is at the front with the rhs battery box.

The hard lines would be run externally as per a '73 model.

Any thoughts / photos would be appreciated.

    Cheers

    Hi Cam,
I was about to put one on my race car, Mark Poole quoted me about $3000 to do it, but that is because I have the lines and thermostat!!!!
That was without labour too! So really it was about $5k!
Mark did have it all worked out though how to set it up and all the bits. He has done it quite a bit to all his customers cars. Give him a call and I am sure he would give you what you need to complete.

Wow are you sure? $3k in bits and you have the lines & thermostat?

I might be taking a more budget approach I think as funds are a bit limited at the moment. (I bought the other half a rock the other day, i think that makes her my fiance....!!!)

Alex I PM'ed you as well on something.

          Ah Clyde

Always coming up with the goods eh!!! Thanks for that, yes I need to know how the cooler fits when there's a battery box in place. That photo is great.

It looks like your thermostat is mounted to the bottom of the oil tank, I think I would have to mount the thermostat on the inner wheel arch as per the later cars. What year is the car in the photo, is it a '73?

I think the thermostat and hard lines are going to cost you Cameron. Dont know how hard it is to find this sort of hardware that suits an early car ??

Still buy lines new from Porsche $1200 a pipe. Then 4 flexible lines at $200 a pop then the thermostat god knows for that. Not sure for the trombone cooler.

                Ouch!!!!

Would it be that hard to have a set of hard lines made if a set could be found to use as a guide?

Paul, you would have thought so, I'm not sure there is anything special about them other than the shape. I wonder if Enzed or Pirtek could knock a batch up?

I have an engineer who maintains some of our plant. He's pretty old school and fabricates a lot of stuff himself - next time I see him I might have a chat to him about the practicality of making a few sets up.
