Quick update; along with buying lots of rubber bits etc from Stoddard et al, new seat belts and dropping off my dash to the dashboard doctor, I thought it would be a good opportunity to repaint my transmission cover tunnel in wrinkle paint. Before shot, after paint stripping shot and after painting with VHT Wrinkle Plus Paint shot (and baking in the oven at 100 degree for an hour)..

Looks nice and original Marcus. How does the oven smell after the paint bake ?

            Looks really nice.

Mine is covered in carpet - do you think this was originally the case or should I remove carpet and do same as Marcus?

There is a lining on the inside to stop dust etc getting in, however external should wrinkle painted metal (at least for a '71).

The transmission panel should be on top of the carpet Mark. And have the original lining on the inside, also above the carpet

Progress update: all rust now repaired and starting to epoxy the car.. fingers crossed only a couple of months until it's finished. How do I stop this photo going sideways - it doesn't appear that way on iPhotos ??

Looks great Marcus. IME the image is too large, and when i reduce it to say 50, it always works.

you took that with an Iphone with it vertical i suspect
i mostly do that and when it goes onto the PC it is sideways

try taking it with the phone horizontal - the longest side horizontal and see what happens, and then "upside down" with the same aspect I think the camera is fixed in its focus / aspect in the phone and it is a different perspective to what we expect and then see when downloaded to a computer or website
